Demodara Bridge or "nine Arch Bridge" (Nine Arch Bridge) is located on the railway line between Ella and the railway station in the city of Demodara. It was built during the colonial period in 1921 entirely of brick, stone and cement without the use of metal and concrete, and became for Sri Lanka a real engineering miracle of the time. It is still in use and all trains towards Badulla pass through it.
A walk to the bridge along the railway tracks will be a small interesting adventure. When you reach the bridge, you can cross it to the other side. On the other side a little higher is a good observation deck, and a few more in the area.
The most interesting action here is the passage over the train bridge. They take place 12 times a day, and a huge number of tourists gather here for each passage, so it is better to take a convenient place for photographing in advance. A few minutes before the train passes, railway employees try to drive all tourists off the bridge with whistles, but usually there is always someone left and the train passes safely.

Around the clock, it is best to visit while passing over the bridge of the train at about 06:05, 06:20, 08:00, 09:10, 11:40, 12:30 , 15:15, 15:50, 17:15 and 18:20, 18:30.

🚶 How to get there
The bridge is 2 kilometers from Ella (Bridge on the map). It can be reached on foot along the railway tracks towards Badulla (3 kilometers), or along the trail (2 kilometers), which starts from the Passara Road. More precisely, from Passara Road to the bridge leads several paths, some of which are even marked with signs. There are always a lot of tourists on these trails, but to find the right road, you can use the Navigator or the application Organic Maps or similar, where all the trails are marked. Also, the bridge can be reached by a dirt road on a tuk-tuk (1000 rupees round trip) or a rented motorbike on the roads to bypass the Navigator.
