The full name of this temple is Webrukannala Raja Maha Viharaya. For Lankans, this is one of the sacred places, and therefore the temple is always full of believers. They go here to pray and see the largest statue of the sitting Buddha on the island (height-50 meters). But for tourists, this place is interesting not only for the statue.
To get to the statue, you must first go through a long corridor of horrors. Here the walls are covered with horrific pictures of the punishments of sinners by demons, and at the entrance there are several scenes with life-size statues, again on the theme of the punishments of sinners. The scenes and images are actually terrifying, which is not at all typical of Buddhist temples.

🚶 How to get there
The temple is located about one and a half kilometers from the center The dickwells inland (temple on the interactive map of Dickwella). It is best to visit the temple by rented transport or tuk-tuk, but if you need to save money, you can get there on foot. If you want to visit the temple from other resorts in the south, you can drive to the bus station of Dickwella,and then walk.
