Colombo National Museum - the largest museum Sri Lanka. Located in the southern part of Viharamadevi Park (Viharamahadevi Park) in an elegant white building built in Italian style. In front of the facade of the building is a statue of Buddha.

The National Museum is one of the places you should definitely visit in Colombo. The museum is very informative and allows you to fully present the history and culture of the country, since ancient times.

The opening of the museum took place on January 1, 1877 with the assistance of the English Governor William Henry Gregory. Its expositions include not only artifacts found on the territory of Sri Lanka during excavations, but also objects of the colonial past (sabers, cannons, statues, paintings), as well as rare books and manuscripts, household items, Needlework, a collection of masks that characterize the Sri Lankan culture. All exhibits are located on two floors of the museum building in 17 halls, arranged in historical sequence and divided thematically. One of the most noteworthy items is the throne of the last king of Lanka, dated 1693.
