Description and is it worth a visit
The Museum of Finance and Economic History in Colombo or simply the Sri Lanka Money Museum (Central Bank Currency Museum). This is a little–known place among tourists, which, however, may be of interest to travelers, especially if you plan to exchange currency in the city center. It is located in the Colombo Fort financial district, on a street that is known for its many exchange offices. In our experience, this is where you can find one of the most profitable courses in the country, but we always advise you to compare offers in several places before making an exchange.
The museum belongs to the central bank of Sri Lanka, Bank of Ceylon, and occupies an old building. Considering that the entrance is absolutely free for everyone, its scale is pleasantly surprising. The exposition is quite extensive and includes a large collection of coins and banknotes dating back to ancient times. Here you can trace the history of the country's money and finances, and you can also buy collectible and investment coins.
After visiting, we can say that it's probably not worth coming here from other parts of the city, especially if your time is limited. But if you find yourself nearby on business, for example, you will change money, then it's definitely worth coming here – it will give you an interesting and informative idea of the economic history of the country. Keep in mind that the museum has a lunch break, so it is better to plan the visit time with this inconvenience in mind.
