Description and is it worth a visit
The Maritime Museum is located next to the Sambodhi Chaitiya Stupa, more precisely, the stupa is located on the territory of the museum and is part of it. In general, this area with a museum and a stupa is adjacent to the port, and therefore it is not at all surprising that it appeared here. Its exposition, though not too large, will be interesting to many, especially if you visit it together with a stupa, to the top of which you can climb and look at the port and the Colombo Fort area from a bird's-eye view.
The museum's exposition presents historical artifacts recovered from the bottom near the Indian Ocean around the island: bottles, stone slabs, jewelry, statues, as well as recreated models of ancient frigates and ships with a detailed description of historical periods, equipment used in the work and exploration of the ocean. There is also a second floor, but there are only photos and documents. Given the close connection of the theme of the museum with the history of Colombo, we believe that it is definitely worth a visit, and at the same time climb the viewing stupa.

🚶 How to get there
The museum is located near the port in Colombo district 1, also known as Colombo Fort district (museum on Colombo map). This is actually the tourist center of Colombo and most of the hotels, guest houses and hostels for short stays are located here. However, despite the apparent proximity of the museum and the stupa in a straight line, it is not so easy to get to them. The fact is that part of this area is occupied by the presidential palace and other government and military institutions, and there is no direct passage. And to get to the museum, you will first have to go to the embankment near The Kingsbury Hotel, and then go towards the port. But in principle, you won't have any problems with the navigator. Well, if you do not want to walk, you can take a taxi or tu-tuks from 400 rupees, or hire a tuk-tuk to travel to the sights of Colombo for the whole day from 5000 rupees. We have told you all about Colombo transport and how to use it here.
Getting to know the sights of Colombo is much more interesting and informative with the help of excursions that you can buy on one of the sites with reviews:
