Description and is it worth a visit
Borella Cemetery is the Central Cemetery Colombo is located in the Borella district, although there are small cemeteries in other parts of the city. It is noteworthy that its territory is conditionally divided into parts, according to the religious beliefs of the buried people. Separate places are allocated for the burial of Christians, Buddhists, Hindus. Sometimes here you can see the rituals of cremation of the deceased, carried out symbolically (without a body). For real cremations, a large crematorium is used here, on the territory.
The cemetery arose on this site in 1840 and the earliest burials date from this period.
