Galle Face Green or Galle Face (Galle Face Green) is a walking path with a length of about 1.3 km along the western coast of the Indian Ocean in the heart of Colombo. Although it is considered one of the attractions of Colombo and is called the promenade, in fact it is difficult to call it a full-fledged promenade and a place to relax. At the same time, this is one of the few places in the city where you can go for an evening walk or for sports. Near the waterfront is Colombo beach, but we do not recommend swimming there.
In 1859 there was a racetrack on this place, and today it is a favorite place for recreation and meetings of local youth. Despite the fact that there are no recreation areas, no benches and gazebos, no attractions, with the arrival of the evening, the Embankment becomes a lively place. Locals and visitors of the city flock here, food vans, fast food outlets, toy dealers appear. Also, city mass events are held at this place, including the celebration of the new year. Across the street there is a large modern shopping center with a supermarket.
However, to be honest, you should not expect purity, gloss and comfort from Gal Face. By tradition, everything here is not very clean, convenient and safe. There is not even an elementary railing that will protect you from falling on the rocks below the water, there is not enough lighting. In general, in the evenings it is not very safe here, especially during the holidays because of the large number of young people, many of whom are "tipsy". But if you don't run into conflicts and smile, then in general the place is very positive.

🚶 How to get there
The embankment is centrally located south of the Fort district (promenade on the Colombo map). It's a long way to walk from Colombo Fort hotels, a couple of kilometers. You can also stay near the waterfront in one of the expensive new high-rise hotels, but their prices are very high. From other parts of the city it is very easy to get here by city buses, since this is a central place and there are a lot of routes.
