Beaches and areas of Bentota
With the areas and beaches of Bentota, not everything is as simple as it seems at first glance. Bentota is considered one of the developed and popular resorts, but you need to understand that the very center of the city and resort of Bentota is rather a poorly developed village. The actual center of the resort is the city of Aluthgama (Aluthgama) with a more developed urban infrastructure, car and railway station. But for some reason, in travel agencies, hotel reservation systems, guidebooks, it is to Bentota that Alutgam and other neighboring beaches and areas are attributed, and not vice versa. To understand everything, and choose the right place for a hotel, here is an overview of the areas and beaches in Bentota:
-
Bentota Center
This is, in fact, the city of Bentota itself and its beach (center of Bentota on the map). But it can only be called a city with a big stretch. There is a railway station, several shops, one liquor store, several cafes, one travel agency and a couple of currency exchanges on the main street. Previously, there was a tourist area with a market and shops, a Tourist Information Center in the center, but as of 2019 there is nothing left, the infrastructure has only become worse compared to previous years. And what's really bad, on the site of the former children's Park in the very center there was a stinking dump.
However, it is in the center that the most hotels on the beaches are located, as well as inexpensive accommodation options in the residential area across Galle Road. The beach here is excellent: long and wide, a lot of shade from palm trees. But there is no entertainment and infrastructure, except for rare sun loungers at hotels and cafes.

Aluthgama District
It is a small town adjacent to Bentota in the North, just across the river (Alutgama on the map). It is here that the bus station and railway station are located, the entire urban infrastructure with shops, markets, banks, ATMs, local cafes, alcohol markets. But there is no beach at all.

Moragalla Beach
Moragalla beach though is 3 kilometers from the center further beyond Alutgama (Moragalla on the map), is the most developed Bentota. There are sun loungers, cafes on the beach, shops with tourist goods, and even modest beach entertainment in high season. The area along the beach is a typical village with houses of local residents, between which there are rare hotels. All urban infrastructure is located along the Main Street and in the neighboring district of Alutgama.
However, objectively, the beach here is worse than in the center of Bentota. It is long (about one and a half kilometers) and wide, but it is here that the Bentota-Ganga river flows into the ocean with all the consequences of life that follow from it. The shore is often covered with debris carried out by the river (sticks, coconuts, leaves, rags, bottles, plastic), but is constantly cleaned. But the undeniable plus of this beach is not such big waves as in the center of Bentota.

Induruwa and Kosgoda
It is a relatively new and developing tourist area adjacent to the city in the south (Induruva on the map). The beaches of Induruva stretch for almost five kilometers, and hotels are sparsely scattered on them. For a beach holiday, this place is excellent, at least better than in the center of Bentota and in the north of it, but the infrastructure here is still weak. All life is centered around beaches and hotels, and beyond them there is nothing. In other places, even to eat, except in the hotel, nowhere. In general, this is the perfect place for a quiet and secluded beach holiday without entertainment.
After Induruwa to the North is Kosgoda district and beach (The area on the interactive map of Bentota). It is almost the same as Induruwa, but even more secluded and with even less developed infrastructure.

Beruwala
Beruvela is located a little further north towards Colombo (The area on the interactive map of Bentota). There are almost no beaches here (except for the beaches in the south and in Alutgam), there are few hotels. This area is interesting only as a place with more or less developed infrastructure (several shops with alcohol), and a couple of attractions. Beruvele has nothing else to attract tourists.

Bentota Hotels
Bentota is not famous as a place oversaturated with budget accommodation. Most of the hotels here are designed for package tourists who are ready to lay out $ 50 and above for one night in a hotel with its territory on the first line. Hostels or hotels costing up to $ 30 are problematic to find, they are all located far from the beach in a residential area behind the Main Road Galle road.
When choosing a hotel on the first line, it is worth considering the proximity to the railway, which stretches along the coast through all areas of the resort. Trains run here even at night, and actively begin to move from 6 in the morning. Therefore, if you stay in a hotel with poor sound insulation next to the railway, you will wake up early.
