Melasti Beach and Karma Beach are two beaches in the extreme south of Bali on the Bukit Peninsula (Melasti beach on the map). The southernmost point of the island is really located here. Melasti and Karma are actually located on the same stretch of shore, so they are sometimes confused. Karma Beach is a private beach of the hotel and it occupies only a small part of the entire coast on the left side. There is a separate road and a path to the descent through the hotel to Karma Beach, but it is also easy to walk along the shore with Melasti. But the entrance to it is very expensive – 250,000 VND (13.84 USD), and plus you have to spend at least 500,000 on food and drinks.
But let's return to Melasti, as it is more accessible and democratic. This is a real island of civilization on this coast, and in general one of the best beaches in Bali according to many tourists. Unlike its "wild" neighbors along the shore of the beaches Nyang-nyang and Nunggalan everything is perfectly equipped here: there are cafes, sun loungers, umbrellas, large Parking, even water activities. The beach is very pleasant to relax, with fine pleasant sand, suitable for swimming at low tide.
Entrance to Melasti is paid - 10,000 rupees (0.55 USD). This price includes the use of a toilet and a shower. You need to pay 150,000 rupees for a chaise longue for the whole day (8.3 USD), but you can relax on your towel or mattress.
But the most important thing is that you do not need to walk here along the trails overcoming descents and ascents, but you can drive up by taxi and or rented transport to the parking lot directly to the beach. That is why there are always a lot of vacationers here, including Russian tourists. But if you don't like too many neighbors on the shore, then you can go to one of the club beaches for 250,000 rupees.
Well, if you stay here until sunset, you can watch the Kecak fire dance show. It takes place at the amphitheater site on the left side of the beach at 18:00 hours, the cost is 150 00 rupees.
But there are also disadvantages that need to be honestly told about:
- If you come here by non-rented transport, then it will not be easy to leave cheaply. Taxi drivers from the outside, including through applications, are not allowed here, so you will either have to order a local in the parking lot at least twice as expensive, or walk out of the beach behind the barrier uphill, and order a car to that point.
- In the middle of the day there are really a lot of vacationers here. You can, of course, pay for admission to the club beach, but the prices "bite".
- Some construction work is still underway on the beach and in the coastal zone (and this has been at least 7 years!!!), so construction debris comes across, building materials are stacked.
- In the afternoon, after about 15 hours, there is almost no sun left on the beach, it will no longer be possible to sunbathe.
How to get to Melasti Beach
The beaches of Melasti and Karma are located on the southern edge of the Bukit Peninsula (Melasti on the map), this is generally the southernmost point of Bali. It is 20 kilometers from the airport and Kuta, through traffic jams for almost an hour.
There are several entrances to Melasti on good roads, just drive as the navigator leads, you will get to the parking lot near the beach, from it you almost immediately get to the shore.
You can get to Karma along the shore from Melasti, but there is also a separate entrance past the Boutique hotel villa Cantik. But there, from the parking lot to the beach, you will have to go down the steps, walk for 15 minutes.
Important! You can get there by taxi when ordering through the Grab, GoJek, Maxim applications from 100,000 rupees(5.54 USD). But in order to pick up passengers, these taxis are not allowed to the beach by the local "taxi mafia". Therefore, in order to leave here, you will have to pay at least twice as much to local private taxi drivers in the parking lot, or walk up the hill to the barrier at the exit from the beach, and order a car from there. Go about half a kilometer and up 80 meters, it's about 25 floors!!!
Hotels and accommodation in Melasti, where to stay
There is no tourist area near Melasti and Karma yet, and not even a village. But given the scale of construction and new roads, perhaps everything will appear here in the near future. In the meantime, you can stay here in one of the expensive hotels with its own territory, and there are at least a dozen of them here. But all of them are not on the beach itself, but are located above. I.e. if you stay in one of them, you need to take into account that you will have to get to the beach every time with a height difference of up to 100 meters. For this, some hotels provide free shuttle busses. The Karma Kandara Hotel has built a funicular to access the beach, but at the moment it is not running for technical reasons, check this information in the description and reviews of the hotel.
