The village, beach, and area of Jimbaran are located not far from the Kuta area on the other side of the airport (Jimbaran on the map). On this same shore, there are also Kedonganan Beach, Pantai Muaya, Tuban Beach, and Queen Beach, but in fact, they're all the same Jimbaran, just different names for its separate sections.
As an interesting distant beach for a day trip from other resorts, in our opinion, this area is so-so – there are better beaches. But it does have a special charm. Jimbaran Beach is known as one of the coolest and most affordable places for fresh seafood restaurants. The thing is, there's a large Jimbaran fish market here, where the fresh catch goes straight to the local restaurants. So if you have time and desire, you can come here for a whole day, relax on the beach and swim, and end the evening with a wonderful romantic dinner on the shore.
But let's be honest and detailed about the beach itself. The shoreline here stretches for 4 kilometers, starting right from the airport, so as a bonus, you'll also get views of landing planes. The sand is there, the seabed slope is mostly steep and deep, and in the southern part of the beach, it's shallow. But the problem is that this is a fishing area, especially in the northern part near the airport. Here, fishing boats are constantly in the sea, and on the shore, there's trash and a lot of fishing waste. In the southern part of the beach, none of this is present, but even so, the shore here often gets washed up with remnants of fishing nets, floats, boards, and other debris. If it weren't for this, the beach would be absolutely perfect.
Nevertheless, despite the mentioned drawbacks, beach relaxation is possible here. In the southern part (which is lower on the map and farther from the airport), there are decent hotels with their own beaches, so if the bustling Kuta and the excessive pomp of Nusa Dua don't suit you, you can stay here for relaxation. But honestly, we can't name any specific reason to choose this area for a vacation. Unless you're set on eating at the famous local seafood restaurants on the beach every day, or you just liked a particular hotel here.
The area here is quiet and calm, but poorly developed, resembling a tourist village. You'll find motorbike rentals and tours at hotels, there's a Coco Supermarket Jimbaran on Uluwatu Street, currency exchange, ATMs, many cafes and shops. But for serious shopping and favorable currency exchange, you'll have to go to Kuta or Denpasar.
What to see in Jimbaran, attractions and activities
There are no attractions or activities directly in the Jimbaran area. The only thing here is the aforementioned seafood restaurants and the fish market – nothing else. Well, you could loosely include Tuban Beach at the northernmost tip of the Jimbaran shore, right by the airport, as an attraction. There you can watch planes land.
However, not far from this area is one of the most famous and visited temples on all of Bali – Uluwatu. Also in this southern part of the island, there are many beautiful secluded and developing beaches, and a new Garuda Wisnu sculpture park with a giant statue of the deity. As for activities, there's no active recreation, nightlife, or children's entertainment here. In the evening, at best, you can sit in one of the quiet cafes or a bar with music. With children, you can take a taxi to the water park in Kuta or to the water sports center at Tanjung Benoa.
How to get to Jimbaran
Jimbaran is located south of the airport and just a few kilometers from central Kuta in a straight line, but by road, it's quite far (Jimbaran on the map).
Public transport doesn't go to Jimbaran; you can only get there by taxi or rented vehicle. From the airport via Grab, Maxim, GoJek, etc., you can get there from about 60,000 rupiah (3.34 USD), and about the same from central Kuta.
Hotels and accommodation in Jimbaran, where to stay
Jimbaran can hardly be called a budget area, so if you're a budget traveler with a backpack, finding accommodation here won't be easy. To be more precise, it's not that hotels here are more expensive than in other areas of Bali – there are just no cheap budget options here. You can find rooms for $15-20 for two, but only deep in the area and away from the beach. If you're willing to spend from $50 per room, you can find perfectly decent options with beach access.
