RussiaThe grotto of permafrost or summer permafrost in Zheleznovodsk is often confused with A cave or a permafrost tunnel, but in fact these are different places, although and they are very close to each other. The grotto, in our opinion, cannot even be called a landmark, but we will briefly tell you about it so that you do not confuse it with a cave.
So, the grotto is just a man-made concrete "cellar" built in Soviet times on the slope of Razvalka Mountain. Due to the special structure of the mountain, composed of petrified magma with wide cracks, water accumulates in its crevices in summer, which freezes in winter and does not have time to melt again. Thanks to this, the grotto is cool even on the hottest days of summer.
But today this place is no longer interesting for tourists. You can feel a whiff of cold only at the very entrance to the "cellar", but this entrance itself is littered with garbage and dirt. You can visit it only for the sake of interest, if you pass by on the path that leads to the Permafrost Cave, which we recommend to visit without fail.

🚶 How to get there: The grotto is located about 5 kilometers from the center of the tourist area (Grotto on the map). From the Resort Park and the tourist area, the health trail terrencourt No. 2 and No. 3 leads to it, there are signs along the way, but it's not easy to figure them out. Therefore, it is best to arm yourself with a navigator or download offline map applications to your smartphone, such as Organic Maps, Guru Maps, OSM, etc., and follow the navigator. To shorten the walking part of the route, you can drive by car from the non-tourist part of the city along the old asphalt road to the Forester's Hut cafe, park the car there and then follow the trail on foot at the sign for only 5-10 minutes.
