What to Expect and Is It Worth Visiting

Armenian Fountain, Feodosia
Armenian Fountain

Armenian Fountain is a historical and architectural landmark of Feodosia, but is almost unknown among tourists. Its construction dates back to 1491 or 1584. Of course, it is not functioning now, but after construction it was part of the city's general drinking water supply system until the XIX century. It was built by the Armenian community in the traditional Armenian architecture of those times – in the form of a prism.

You can look at the fountain while walking around the old town, it is also convenient to reach it during a walk to the observation deck Mitridat Mountains. And not far from the fountain there is the Armenian Church of St. Sarkis and the Church of the Archangels Gabriel and Michael, and very close on Aivazovsky Street/There is a house in the sea where Aivazovsky was born. On purpose, just for the sake of the fountain itself, it may not be worth getting here.

🚶 How to get there

The Armenian fountain is located in the old town of Feodosia at the foot of Mount Mithridates at the junction of Morskaya and Aivazovsky streets (fountain on the map). To be honest, it's not easy to find it, it's best to arm yourself with a map or navigator, there are no pointers.

You can get here from the center on foot, for example, while walking to the Genoese fortress and other historical sites in the old part of the city. For reference, from the center from Galeriynaya Street to the fountain is a little less than two kilometers. If it's too far for you, then you can take city bus number2 to the stop "Timiryazeva Street" or 1, 1a, 1b, 2a, 14 or 15 to the stop "Morsad", and from there on foot 10 minutes. If you are in your car, you can drive directly to the fountain, but there is a dirt road and broken asphalt leading here, and therefore in wet weather it is better to leave the car on the asphalt along Armyanskaya Street and walk on foot. Alternatively, you can get to the observation deck on Mount Mithridates, and from there walk to the fountain and the Thomas Tower.

And finally, a simpler and more interesting way to get here is to buy a sightseeing tour of the city on electric vehicles with a visit to Mount Mithridates and the observation deck. These electric vehicles depart from Galeriynaya Street in the place where it rests on the embankment. The cost of the excursion starts from 1000 rubles / person.
