Colonel's falls - a picturesque hiking route along the gorge of the Dzhubga River to several waterfalls and water slides. Large waterfalls have the names nose, upper Colonel, colonel, and small – nameless. The route begins in the village of Polkovnichye, 14 kilometers from Dzhubga. This is a great day trip that can be done on your own or with a guided tour.
The route is completely on foot, but if you purchase a ready-made excursion, then part of the way you will be taken by an SUV truck. But to pass it completely on foot and independently there are no problems, especially since it is free. Families with children and the elderly will be able to overcome it, although not everyone will be able to reach the very end of the route to the upper Colonel's waterfall.
The path passes through the gorge and the riverbed, and in the high-water season (spring and autumn) you will have to wet your feet. The entire route from the beginning of the trail in the farm to the upper Colonel's is about 7 kilometers long in one direction and goes gently upwards, almost imperceptibly. It is worth laying a valuable day for the passage, it is necessary to start in the morning. In several places, there are difficult sections that at first glance may seem insurmountable. In this case, look for a bypass path or ropes for climbing, tied to the stones, everything is equipped for this. Classically, the route ends at the High Colonel's waterfall, where they usually stop, swim in the icy water of the pool, and go back. But if you still have the strength, then look for a vertical cable to the left of the waterfall, and climb the steep slope further to the upper Colonel.
Passing will not require special equipment and skills, but trekking or at least sports shoes are strictly recommended. Also bring water, something to eat and raincoats. Trekking poles on the route are optional, but it will be easier with them.
It is best to pass this route in full-water time in spring or autumn. In summer, there is little water in the river, and the waterfalls turn into thin streams. Moreover, along the way, the river can simply disappear completely (apparently goes underground). But keep moving on, and the water will show up again from under the stones.
Warning! Remember that mountain rivers during the rains abruptly fill with water. If a heavy downpour starts during the hike and the flow of water increases, if possible, look for a high point on the shore.
🕐 Working hours: around the clock, the route should start in the morning.
💵 Entrance fee / tickets price: free.
