What to Expect and Is It Worth Visiting
Two Old Believers ' churches are located near St. Petersburg street in Kazan. One of them is the beautiful red-brick Old Believer Church of the icon of the mother of God, which stands out for its turquoise domes. The church was built in 1912 with elements of the then fashionable "non-Russian" style, and today is a monument of urban planning and architecture of regional significance. Like most churches, during the Soviet period it was closed, and transferred to the use of a car repair shop. But unlike other religious sites, it was almost not destroyed or looted, and has come down to our days almost unchanged.
