Two Old Believers ' churches are located near St. Petersburg street in Kazan. One of them is a beautiful red brick Pokrovsky Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of the appearance of the Icon Of The Most Holy Theotokos of Kazan or the Cathedral of the intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos. It is crowned with unusual black domes, and in the Square in front of the temple there is a pyamyatnik to Metropolitan Andrian (Chetvergov), Primate of the Russian Orthodox Old Believer church.

The cathedral was consecrated in the name of the appearance of the Icon Of The Virgin in 1909, but after 12 years in Soviet times it ceased to exist. All property was confiscated from it, and the building was transferred to the archive of the TASSR. Only in 1996, the cathedral was recognized as an architectural monument of national significance and transferred to the use of the Religious Society of Old Believers and its restoration began.

Unfortunately, it is not always possible to inspect the temple from the inside, since it is often closed to tourists. But if you have an interest in this place, you can visit the Museum of the history of the Old Believers, which is located in the basement of the building, the entrance is on the right side. Its exposition of three halls includes sections telling about the history of the Old Believers from the moment of its emergence, about the beginning of the schism, books, icons, copies and photos of shrines are presented.
