What to Expect and Is It Worth Visiting
St. John the Baptist monastery is located opposite the main entrance to the Kazan Kremlin and Spasskaya Tower, and next to the National Museum.
On the compact territory of the monastery there are 2 buildings in which the monks live, the bell tower and the Church of the introduction of the Most Holy Theotokos into the temple. The monastery was founded around 1567, but has not survived to this day in its original form. Its buildings were rebuilt and restored many times for various reasons.
Despite the central position, this temple is rarely visited by visitors to the city. It can be interesting to visit only the church, where on the walls, at the entrance to the main hall, there are photos of churches before and after restoration. There are photos of already lost temples. You can go here to advise if you are nearby.
