What to Expect and Is It Worth Visiting
Temple-monument in honor of the image of the Savior not made with hands - one of the oldest Kazan monuments and war memorials in Russia. It was installed at the beginning of the 19th century in memory of those who died during the siege and capture of Kazan in 1552. The history of the temple in modern times is sad. It was often subjected to acts of vandalism, gradually destroyed and not subjected to restoration, and as a result, it is now in an extremely neglected state. One of the reasons is that it was built in honor of Russian soldiers, and according to one version, that is why the monument is not given due attention by the leadership of the city and the Republic of Tatarstan.
The temple has a completely unique architecture: it is made in the form of a pyramid, on each side of the kooroi there is a separate entrance. Today it is virtually abandoned, church services are not held, and the area around is fenced and littered with garbage. Getting to it on a dilapidated bridge is also not easy. If you pass by, you can go in, but you should not go there specifically.

🚶 How to get there
the memorial temple is located on the Kazanka River in the center of Kazan on a tiny island connected to the shore by a sandy spit and a dilapidated pedestrian bridge (temple-monument on the map). From the tourist area of the city and the Kremlin you can walk here, but you have to overcome two and a half kilometers in one direction from the entrance to the Kremlin, for example. You need to go on the right side of the bridge of the Kirov dam, then go down to the shore and go along the spit and through the bridge. To go less, you can take a taxi or city buses to the nearest stop to the monument "River Technical School" and then walk 1 kilometer. There is also no way to get closer by private car, since stopping and parking on the Kirov Dam Bridge is prohibited, so you will have to look for parking further away, for example, on Clara Zetkin Street, where you can park for FREE near the chapel of the Kazan Icon of the mother of God and Seraphim of Sarov.
