If you've come to Kazan on vacation with kids, they'll probably quickly get bored with visits to historical and art museums, walks along pedestrian streets, and tours of architectural landmarks, churches, and mosques. So you'll have to think about how to diversify your tourist time in Kazan with children. We've put together a list of the most interesting entertainments and attractions worth visiting with kids in Kazan:
Gabdulla Tukay Literary Museum
The museum is dedicated to the life and work of the Tatar poet, one of the founders of Tatar literature and the modern Tatar language. His works are part of the golden treasury of Tatar poetry and world literature. Even if you've never been familiar with his work or heard his name, in Kazan you'll encounter his memory at every turn, because even the most popular starting point and landmark among tourists bears his name – Gabdulla Tukay Square.
The museum has undergone a major renovation and now features a new and modern interactive exhibition that kids really love. There's also a playroom where you can touch and take photos with the most famous characters from G. Tukay's children's works, such as Shurale, Su Anasy (Water Spirit), and others. Additionally, the museum keepers will offer to show cartoons based on one of the poet's works. You can even just play in the room. More about the Tukay Museum.

Museum of Natural History
In our opinion (the site's authors), this is one of the most interesting museums in Kazan, and one of the few that kids will enjoy. The exhibition tells about the geological history of Tatarstan, its fossils, animal and plant life.
The first floor has a section on astronomy and the formation of planet Earth, on minerals and how they are extracted. Special attention is given to "black gold" – oil. The second floor is dedicated to wildlife, and here you can see fossils and animal skeletons. There are dinosaur and mammoth skeletons, which kids especially love. But the exhibition is not limited to traditional exhibits, offering many interactive ones, such as: a telescope, interactive boards and screens, magnetic puzzles, archaeological excavations, and more. Museum of Happy Childhood
Continuing the theme of Soviet life, another museum operates in Kazan – the Museum of Happy Childhood. Overall, it doesn't differ much in theme from the Museum of Socialist Life; it also has a collection of items from the Soviet era that you can touch, play musical instruments, and photograph anything. The difference is in the exhibits themselves, with more emphasis on children's goods and toys, and nothing more.
If you've already been to the first museum, you might want to skip this one, especially since the price is also quite high. If you're deciding which of these two museums to visit and you have kids with you, definitely choose this one, as there are many more toys here, and kids will find it much more interesting. The A.A. Shtukenberg Geological Museum operates at the state university. Inside is a large collection of minerals and ores, meteorites, and fossilized remains of wild plants and animals. In total, they claim over 150,000 exhibits.

Ferris wheel "Around the World"
The new Kazan ferris wheel "Around the World" is located next to the "Riviera" waterpark and is part of the "Kazanskaya Riviera" entertainment complex. You can visit it separately from the complex's other attractions, and as most tourists who have ridden the wheel say, it's worth the trip. Its height is 65 meters, which is about the height of a 28-story building, and it's 10 meters higher than the old wheel in "Kyrlay" park. The cabins are new, modern, enclosed, with transparent walls. Each cabin is dedicated to one of the popular tourist countries, with a drawing on the ceiling dedicated to that country. More about the Ferris wheel.

Ekiyat Puppet Theater
The Ekiyat Puppet Theater (translated from Tatar as "fairy tale") is one of the oldest puppet theaters in Russia, operating since 1934. True, it hasn't always been in the building where it is now. It moved into the new building, designed as a fairy-tale palace, in 2012. The building is very colorful, truly fairytale-like, beautifully lit at night, and can essentially be considered a modern architectural landmark, though the design is certainly debatable. The inside of the building is also very colorful.
The theater's repertoire includes classic children's performances like Tsokotukha the Fly, Teremok, The Wizard of the Emerald City, etc., as well as performances based on Tatar folk tales. If time permits, be sure to take your children here during your trip. Tickets are purchased for both children and accompanying adults. More about the puppet theater.
Practical Information
🕐 Opening hours: performances are held according to a schedule presented on the official website, usually once or twice a day, but not every day.

Tatar Village
Right in the center of Kazan, not far from the tourist area, there's a cozy corner that recreates a traditional national village. How well they've succeeded, you can judge for yourself, but it's an interesting place worth visiting either way.
Of course, don't expect too much — we don't even consider the village an attraction, but include it in the "Entertainment" section. The main entertainment here is lunch or dinner in one of the restaurants, cafes, pancake houses, or the shish kebab courtyard. There is also a guest house with a banya, a rope park for children, a children's playground (swings, slides), a souvenir shop, a museum of author's toys "Mishkin Dom" (open from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM), and a children's petting zoo. At the main entrance, guests are greeted by a monument to echpochmak. More about Tatar Village.
Practical Information
🕐 Opening hours: entertainment venues and restaurants are open from 10:00 AM to 12:00 AM.
💵 Admission fee / ticket prices: entry to the village is free, entertainment and meals are paid separately.
🚶 How to get there: Tatar Village is located near the tourist area at 14/56 Tufana Minnulina St. (Tatar Village on the map). You can walk here from Bauman Street in 15 minutes. By metro, you can get to "Sukonnaya Sloboda" station and then walk 10 minutes.
Monument to the first Kazan tram
The monument to the first Kazan tram, or as this place is now called "tram alley," is actually not one monument but a small one with three old trams that served their long and hard lives on the roads of Kazan. You can even go inside one of them, sit on the seats, or be the driver. Kids, of course, love this kind of activity, so this place can be safely recommended to city guests who have come here on vacation with children. More about the monument to the first Kazan tram.
Practical Information
🕐 Opening hours: 24/7.
💵 Admission fee / ticket prices: free.
🚶 How to get there: the tram monument is located at the end of the partially pedestrian Peterburgskaya Street, near the "Sukonnaya Sloboda" metro station (tram on the map). You can get here by metro, but it's also easy to walk, as it's just under two kilometers from the end of Bauman pedestrian street along Peterburgskaya Street. Along the way, you can also see other interesting places.
Observation deck in the Kremlin
Behind the Annunciation Cathedral in the Kazan Kremlin is an excellent observation deck offering a wonderful view of the city, the river, the Farmers' Palace, and the Church of Paraskeva Pyatnitsa. Access to the deck is free; for a fee (10 USD), you can view the city through binoculars. We recommend visiting this place twice, during the day and in the evening after dark. The views are wonderful; for photography, it's better to bring a tripod.
Practical Information
🕐 Opening hours: 24/7.
💵 Admission fee / ticket prices: free.
🚶 How to get there: the observation deck is located on the Kremlin grounds behind the Annunciation Cathedral (observation deck on the map).
Lake Nizhny Kaban
Lake Nizhny Kaban is another great place in Kazan where you'll enjoy taking a walk. The lake's embankment is very popular with locals as well. On the west side of the lake, along the Old Tatar Settlement, there is a pedestrian embankment where families with kids and tourists come to feed the ducks living on the lake and the pigeons. Don't forget to buy a loaf of bread for feeding. And even if you forget, no problem, enterprising Kazan residents have installed feed vending machines here, and for 10 rubles, you can get a small portion of seeds or grain.
To the north of the lake, in front of Kamal Theater, you can stroll among fountains, flowers, and several interesting sculptures donated to the city. However, the fountains only operate in the summer. And you can end your trip to the lake with a boat ride or a pedal boat, which are available for rent at a reasonable price: 2-seat pedal boat from 250 rubles for 30 minutes, 4-seat from 300 rubles for 30 minutes, 5-seat boat from 250 rubles. More about the lake.

💵 Admission fee / ticket prices: free.
🚶 How to get there: a 10-minute walk from the "Ploshchad Tukaya" metro station (lake on the map).
G. Kamal Square and fountains
In front of the Kamal Theater, there is a square with fountains that is very pleasant to walk around, especially in the evenings. The square has fountains that are illuminated with different colors in the evening, and music plays. Of course, these are not singing fountains like, for example, in Adler, but overall, it's a pleasant place for a walk, and it also offers a view of Lake Nizhny Kaban. There's also a funny sculpture called "Shurale's Riddles" here. Within walking distance of the square are Lake Nizhny Kaban and, a bit further, the pedestrian street in the Old Tatar Settlement. More about Kamal Square.

🕐 Opening hours: 24/7.
💵 Admission fee / ticket prices: free.
🚶 How to get there: Kamal Square is located in front of the Kamal Theater, within walking distance of Tukay Square (square on the map). The nearest metro station is "Ploshchad Tukaya".
Petting zoo in the Old Tatar Settlement
On the main pedestrian street, Kayuma Nasyri, in the Old Tatar Settlement, on the grounds of the "Tatarskaya Usadba" hotel and restaurant complex, there is a small outdoor petting zoo. Here, children can touch and feed goats, sheep, ponies, chickens, roosters, and turkeys. The variety of animals is small, but kids love it. Plus, the zoo is free. There is also a children's cafe and a gallery of folk crafts here. More about the petting zoo.
Practical Information
🕐 Opening hours: during daytime.
💵 Admission fee / ticket prices: free.
🚶 How to get there: the petting zoo is located on Kayuma Nasyri St., enter the courtyard of the "Tatarskaya Usadba" complex (petting zoo on the map).
Petting zoo in the "Respublika" Mall
An excellent petting zoo is located almost in the very tourist center, near the Gabdulla Tukay metro station, in the "Respublika" Mall. Here you can touch and feed many animals, including exotic species. There are squirrels, a raccoon, chicks, ducklings, guinea pigs, rabbits, turtles, mice, piglets, and many more. You can not only pet and feed some animals but even hold them in your arms. If you've come to Kazan with young children, they will be absolutely thrilled to visit this place. More about the petting zoo.
Practical Information
🕐 Opening hours: daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
💵 Admission fee / ticket prices: entry 200 rubles, children under 3 free.
🚶 How to get there: the petting zoo is on the 3rd floor of the "Respublika" Mall (petting zoo on the map). The mall entrance is from Peterburgskaya Street. There is also a branch of the zoo in the XL shopping complex at 97 Yamash-ev Avenue (open from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM).
"Kazanskaya Riviera" Entertainment Complex
If you want to have fun during your vacation in Kazan, you won't find a better place than "Kazanskaya Riviera". Here you'll find a year-round waterpark, an ice rink, billiards, bowling, 3D and 5D cinemas, a gym, a concert hall, a nightclub, and many restaurants and cafes. There's even its own summer beach.
Tourists can stay at the four-star "Riviera" hotel right in the entertainment complex. The prices can't be called democratic, from 12,000 rubles per night, but what's nice is that hotel guests can use some of the complex's entertainment for free. More about the entertainment complex.
Practical Information
🕐 Opening hours: the complex's entertainment options operate on their own schedules.
💵 Admission fee / ticket prices: see the official website for entertainment costs. Hotel guests enjoy some entertainment for free.
🚶 How to get there: the entertainment complex is located on the opposite side of the Kazanka River from the tourist area, at 1 Fatykha Amirkhana St. (entertainment complex on the map). Getting here from the tourist area is somewhat inconvenient as the metro doesn't reach here, and walking is too far. A taxi ride will cost from 140 rubles. You can also take buses #28a (runs along Baturin St. near the Kremlin and Karl Marx St.), #54 (from Gabdulla Tukay Square), #43 (from "Sukonnaya Sloboda" metro station).
"Riviera" Waterpark
This is one of the largest waterparks in Russia. It is indoor and operates year-round. There are about 50 attractions, several pools, a banya and sauna, a spa area, hydromassage, massage, fish foot massage, and much more. Some of the slides and pools are outdoors and only available in the summer.
If you decide to visit the waterpark during your vacation in Kazan, you should be aware of some difficulties. First of all, overcrowding is an issue, especially in summer. Sometimes you have to wait in line for the slides for 30 minutes or more. Most of the attractions are for children taller than 120 cm, which is usually over 6 years old. The youngest only get a few children's pools. There are also lines for the banya and sauna, as there is little space. Not all the infrastructure works, and many things are broken. Also, don't forget to bring extra money for food (from 500 rubles per person) and other services, as you won't be able to limit yourself to just the entry fee. More about the waterpark.
Practical Information
🕐 Opening hours: daily from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, no days off.
💵 Admission fee / ticket prices: entry prices start from 849 rubles for a 2-hour visit for adults, 499 for children. Children under 4 years old inclusive and under 120 cm tall are free. You can find all prices on the official website kazanriviera.ru/aquapark/
🚶 How to get there: The waterpark is located on the opposite side of the Kazanka River from the tourist area, at 1 Fatykha Amirkhana St. (waterpark on the map).
"Kyrlay" Amusement Park
This is the main amusement park in the city, and if you've come to Kazan with children, you should definitely visit it. It features attractions ranging from simple ones for the littlest kids to extreme entertainment for adults. But it's pointless to describe them; it's better to come and try everything on the spot. Moreover, the park has its own website where everything is described in detail.
The inconvenience for Kazan guests visiting the park is the payment system for attractions. You can't buy a ticket for a single attraction. First, you need to purchase a card at the ticket office or terminal for 30 rubles, then top it up with money using a bank card or cash, and then pay for the attractions with it. You can later return the card and get your unused funds and the card's cost back, but this requires a written application and providing a passport.
Practical Information
🌐 Website: http://www.kazanpark.ru
🕐 Opening hours: the park is temporarily closed and will be moved to a new location.
💵 Admission fee / ticket prices: entry to the park is free; attractions from 80 rubles to 250; ferris wheel – 550 rubles.
🚶 How to get there: "Kyrlay" park is located on the opposite side of the Volga from the Kremlin (Kyrlay Park on the map). You can walk from the Kremlin in about 30 minutes, but the walking route goes through a dam with awkward crossings and is not very safe. It's better to take the metro to "Kozya Sloboda" station and then walk 15 minutes.
"Barionix" Waterpark
The Baryonix waterpark is another popular year-round waterpark in Kazan. It is cheaper than "Riviera," has fewer visitors (so smaller queues), and is also located slightly more conveniently relative to the tourist area. It doesn't have as many accompanying services and entertainment options as "Riviera" (banyas, massage, etc.), but it has everything needed for a fun vacation with kids.
Of course, it should be kept in mind that paying a lower price comes at the cost of it being a much more modest waterpark than "Riviera." The waterpark building, both inside and out, looks dilapidated, many things are broken (showers, lockers), although the attractions are fine. The staff's attitude towards visitors is also not great. More about the waterpark.
Practical Information
🕐 Opening hours: Monday-Thursday from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM; Friday from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM; Saturday from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM; Sunday from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
💵 Admission fee / ticket prices: entry prices start from 400 rubles for a 2-hour visit for adults, 200 for children. Children under 120 cm tall are free. There is a favorable family rate and special offers and discounts. You can find all prices on the official website baryonix.ru
🚶 How to get there: the waterpark is located at 46 Mazita Gafuri St. (waterpark on the map). From the tourist area, you can take a taxi from 80 rubles. By bus #31 (from Gabdulla Tukay Square). Also, a free shuttle bus runs to the waterpark from Gabdulla Tukay Square from 1:00 PM to 11:30 PM and back every half hour.
Oceanarium
In the same building as the Barionix waterpark is the Kazan Oceanarium. They claim you can see about 3,000 inhabitants, including: penguins, sharks, crocodiles, turtles, and, of course, many exotic fish. For some reason, however, in practice, you don't manage to see such a large number of inhabitants. If you've already been to similar places in the capital or in other countries, this one may seem a bit boring, and the price inflated. But if you and your kids have never been to an oceanarium before, it's worth a visit.

🚶 How to get there: the oceanarium is located at 46 Mazita Gafuri St. (oceanarium on the map). From the tourist area, you can take a taxi from 80 rubles. By bus #31 (from Gabdulla Tukay Square). Kazan Zoo
The Kazan Zoobotanical Garden contains over 140 species of animals, and its arboretum has over 900 species of plants. The territory is very large, and you can see tigers, lions, zebras, a leopard, bears, a camel, a hippo, monkeys, many reptiles, birds, and much more. There is a small petting zoo.
Unfortunately, the zoo's condition is not the best: cages are old, and animals are kept in less than ideal conditions. So if you've been, for example, to the Moscow Zoo, you won't see anything special here; rather, you'll be a little disappointed. If your city doesn't have a zoo, and you've come to Kazan with children, you can take them here; kids always enjoy it.
