What to Expect and Is It Worth Visiting
Alexander passage is an architectural landmark and one of the most beautiful buildings in Kazan. The building was built in 1883 by the merchant-millionaire Alexander Sergeevich Alexandrov as an apartment building, or as it could be called now – a shopping complex. It housed shops, a restaurant, apartments for rent, offices. For that time, it was a very advanced structure, since it had electric lighting and even an elevator.
Unfortunately, the profitable House did not become, and after the death of the merchant was transferred to his sister by inheritance, and then donated to the city as a building for the museum. However, the museum did not appear here because of problems with the building itself (the foundation was washed away and cracks appeared in the walls). After the restoration in the Soviet years, a children's cinema worked here, and today the building is under restoration. It is impossible to enter it inside, but it is completely free and from a close distance you can inspect all its details from the outside. Its facade is very beautiful and richly decorated with stucco, everything looks like New. Especially to get here to see it, most tourists should not, but if you walk along the Kremlin street, along which there are several more wonderful historical buildings and attractions, be sure to stop near the Alexander passage and consider the building in more detail.
