Itlyatlyar is one of the most beautiful and easily accessible waterfalls in Dagestan, while in beauty and power it is not much inferior to the neighboring Tobot waterfall next door, which for some reason is much more popular and famous among tourists and travelers. Both waterfalls are only a few minutes walk from each other and are visited together. Sometimes they are even confused, but it is worth noting that Tobot is located at the very beginning of the canyon on the outskirts of the village of Arani, and Itlyatlyar is 200 meters further along the canyon, below we will give their exact coordinates on the map.
The waterfall is formed by the Tirontyar River, which flows along the plateau and falls into the Tsolotlinsky canyon, where it meets the Tobo River. The height of the water jet is about 100 meters, which is even higher than that of the more popular and famous Tobot. The waterfall becomes full-flowing in the summer from May to July, at other times it may dry out and be barely noticeable.
The waterfall can be visited independently and with a one-day excursion from Makhachkala, Derbent, Izberbash. At the same time, there are a couple more interesting places nearby that can be bypassed on foot - the Tsolotlinsky Canyon and The Hunzakh Fortress.
Roads in the village Hunzakh and to the lookouts at the waterfalls are unpaved, and during the rains they are greatly eroded, but, however, there is very little to go from the asphalt. At the same time, the waterfall itself can be classified as dangerous, since fences along the cliff are not everywhere, and in some places you can drive up close to the cliff by car. After the tragedy in the summer of 2022, when a car with a family of 4 people fell into the abyss near the Tobot Waterfall, part of the territory was fenced with a fence of cables. But the safety rules in the canyon area should not be neglected.

Around the clock, it is better to visit in spring during the melting of snow or in summer during rains, and the rest of the time it may be low-water.

Itlyatlyar waterfall is located near the village of Khunzakh, 190 kilometers from Derbent and 152 from Makhachkala. You can look at it from one of several viewing rooms, here are the most popular and convenient:

There is a good asphalt road leading to the village, but the last few hundred meters to these lookouts you will have to drive along a dirt road. But, as we wrote above, it's better to park a little to the side and walk a little, because the unpaved parking lot is too close to the edge of the canyon and is dangerous.
