Boracay Airport

General information how to get there

There is no airport directly on Boracay, and the closest is on the large neighboring island of Panay (airport on the map), which separates Boracay from the Strait only a couple of kilometers wide. This is Caticlan airport, which is traditionally called Boracay Airport. Its official name is the airport named after Godofredo P. Ramos (Paliparang Godofredo P. Ramos).

This is a domestic airport, does not accept international flights, and its transfer to international status is not expected. Therefore, you can get here from other countries only with a transfer at one of the international airports, most often it is Cebu Airport or Manila.

It is profitable to buy tickets here not ready-made, but separately to one of the international ones, and a separate domestic flight here, so it turns out much cheaper. But if finances allow, it is better, of course, to buy a ready-made flight with all transfers:

If you are ready to transfer on your own, be prepared to spend the night in Cebu on Mactan Island, or in Manila. Only domestic flights are operated here:

Tickets for domestic flights are best purchased directly on the websites of these airlines, since not all of them are present in search aggregators like Aviasales. The price of flights is very low, especially if you buy in advance. For example, a flight Manila-Caticlan or Cebu-Caticlan will cost from $ 50 for a round-trip flight without luggage, you will have to pay a little extra for luggage.

Infrastructure and device

Boracay Airport is a small and simple airport, but is capable of receiving Boeing and Airbus jetliners. There are two terminals, arrival and departure, and they are located in completely different parts of the airfield, so if by some chance you have to make a transfer here, lay an additional 40 minutes to get your luggage and move to the departure terminal.

• Arrival terminal / Arrivals

  As such there is no arrival terminal here, it is just a small building at the end of the runway (arrival terminal on the map), which is accessible on foot from the aircraft. Luggage is delivered from the plane manually, and laid out on the reception desk, from where it is simply disassembled by passengers, there is no control.

  There are also counters where a ready-made complex transfer to Boracay is offered, and if you do not have a goal to save every penny, we recommend using them, but more about this below in the section "how to get from the airport".

• Departure terminal / Departures

  It is located in the center of Caticlan, and only a five-minute walk from the marina where boats leave for Boracay (departure terminal on the map). Keep this in mind when you leave the island: it is not necessary to take a taxi, you can walk with a backpack or a light suitcase.

  The departure terminal is very cramped, more like a provincial bus station. At the entrance you need to go through security control, and immediately get to the reception. Luggage is checked in at the racks, and delivered on board manually, no conveyor belts. After registration, you can go up to the second floor in the waiting room, where there is a cafe with fast food, a shop, and a mercilessly working air conditioner, so dress warmly. There is free WiFi.

Currency exchange at Boracay Airport

There is no currency exchange or ATM at Boracay Airport. The nearest exchangers and ATMs are in the city of Caticlan and in the port, but you must first get there from the arrival terminal, so it is very desirable to exchange at least a minimum of currency at one of the international transfer airports to pay for the transfer to the port and the island.

If you get here through Cebu airport, then it is better to change the minimum, for example, 10 dollars, as there is a very unfavorable rate.

If you get through the airport of Manila, then there you can change money at a very good rate, perhaps the best in the country, so change as much as you need for the entire rest or the first time of your stay.

If you can not exchange money at the intermediate airport, you can do it right in the building of the port of departure of boats to Boracay, where the transfer will take you (you will have to somehow negotiate). In the port building, the exchange rate is good, the same and even better than on the island or in the exchangers in the city, so you can change the required amount here.

Service fee for departure from the airport

Earlier, when departing from Boracay Airport, as well as at other Philippine airports, passengers had to pay a Terminal Fee service fee. But now this service fee is included in the cost of air tickets, nothing extra is required to pay.

How to get from the airport to Boracay

From the airport, you usually get to Boracay immediately without stopping in Caticlan, since there is absolutely nothing to do in the city. Get through one of the two marinas, from which go small boats-catamarans (Pump boat), and a large ferry:

• Caticlan Jetty Port - the main port, usually all tourists are transported through it (Caticlan port on the map). Boats arrive in Boracay also at the main Cagban Jetty Port (port of Boracay on the map).
• Tabon Port is a small marina that can be used as an alternative if you need to get to Boracay (Caticlan port on the map). This may be necessary if your hotel is within walking distance of Tambisaan Jetty Port in Boracay (Tambisaan Jetty Port on the map). But, as far as we know, this pier is used only during the peak of the season, or as a backup in adverse weather conditions in the narrow bay between the islands.

Boats and ferries depart around the clock and very often, during the day at least every 5 minutes. The cost depends on the time of day: from 06:00 to 17:45 - 30 pesos (0.54 USD, see Philippine currency and exchange rate); 17:45 to 21:45-40 pesos (0.72 USD) ; from 22:00 to 05:45-50 pesos (0.9 USD).

The route to the island from the airport through these marinas is very well organized. Immediately upon arrival and after baggage collection at the terminal counter, you can purchase a ready-made transfer for 150 pesos (2.71 USD), or VIP transfer for 500 pesos (9.03 USD). They differ in that the usual includes a trip in a minivan with other passengers, and VIP in an individual car. This price immediately includes a boat ticket.

If you want to save a few pesos, you can leave the terminal, go across the road to the parking lot with tricycles, and from there drive to the port for 100 pesos (1.81 USD), and there separately buy a boat ticket for 30-50 pesos depending on the time of day, i.e. spend 80 instead of 150 pesos.

Go both on a minivan and on a tricycle 2 and a half kilometers, or literally 5 minutes.

Upon arrival at the port, you will first need to fill out a special form, where your passport data, the length of stay, your booked hotel are entered. Forms are issued and filled out on tables outside under a canopy. A printout of the hotel booking confirmation is attached to the form.

After filling out the form in the window in the port building, you need to pay 100 pesos (1.81 USD) port fee (Terminal Fee), and at a separate counter 300 pesos (5.42 USD) environmental fee, after which you can go to the landing on the pier. There you will be told Which of the nearest boats to sit on, but sometimes there are queues of tourists. After landing, swim literally 5 minutes, and you are on Boracay.

As a result, to get to Boracay by boat, your expenses will consist of: 30 pesos (cost of crossing) + 100 pesos (port fee) + 75 pesos (environmental fee) = 205 pesos (3.7 USD). In reverse, no environmental fee is paid, i.e. you will pay 130 pesos (2.35 USD).

Upon arrival on the island from the pier you will need to get to the hotel, which can only be done by tricycle, jeepney, or motorcycle taxi, which carry tourists exclusively as a taxi. The cost depends on the distance of the trip, and will range from 50 pesos for a motorcycle taxi to the nearest hotels, and up to 300 pesos for a trip on a tricycle to the farthest Beach. To get cheaper, you need to bargain, and share the trip with other passengers, for which tell the driver that you want to "Share ride", and he will pick up your fellow travelers.
