On November 15, 2023, the previously valid requirement for mandatory hotel reservations from among accredited hotels was canceled. So you can go to Boracay even without booking at all, or book private accommodation. Accordingly, the information on this page is no longer relevant.
In 2018, the island of Boracay was closed to tourists for 6 months to recover, and reopened with some restrictions. Now it can not be visited without pre-booking a hotel, guest house or hotel, which are included in the list of accredited by the Department of Tourism of the Philippines (Department of Tourism). Without a printed booking confirmation, you simply will not be put on a boat to Boracay, and this condition is carefully checked: you will have to fill out a form at the port where your details and the name of the hotel are indicated, and a printout of the reservation must be attached to this form.
The list of accredited hotels for Boracay is updated and can be checked on the official website - http://www.tourism.gov.ph/ (the Accreditation tab). If the site won't Open, see the duplicate list in the FB group. But link to list as of early 2023. As you can see, it is huge, has almost 400 objects.

How to get around the restriction if you need to rent a house
In Boracay, you can still rent a house or villa on the beach. There are many rental listings around the island, and options for homes and apartments are offered on Airbnb. Some of the villas on Airbnb do have accreditation, you can check it on the list at the links above. But if there is no accreditation, and you really liked the object, you can book the cheapest hostel on the island and present a printout at the entrance. Look for hostels and hotels with free cancellations or minimal penalties in case of no-show, so that you can lose payment only for the first day.
