General information

Tagbilaran (Tagbilaran city) - the largest city and capital of the island of Bohol, located in the south of the island (Tagbilaran on the map). There are many hotels, the main seaport of the island, a bus station, developed infrastructure. But tourists, by and large, have nothing to do here: there are no beaches, no iconic attractions or tourist attractions, and the city is noisy, dirty, crowded with people.

However, Tagbilaran is convenient to use as a stopping place before departure or after arrival by ferry, or for bus trips to other parts of the island. Bohol, or as a base for exploring the southern part of the island on local or rented transport, for which you can easily find rental motorbikes immediately upon arrival at and near the Marina. Here is the largest bus station in Bohol, from where you can get to almost anywhere on the island. And also here it is often necessary to make transfers from bus to bus when moving from the east coast to the West or vice versa. Please note that the only airport on Bohol Island is no longer near Tagbilaran, but on Panglao Island. The old Tagbilaran Airport is no longer operational.

Tagbilaran is a developed city, especially its main street Tagbilaran North road-Carlos G. Garcia Avenue throughout its length. Along it there are several large shopping centers, markets, supermarkets, cafes and restaurants (there are McDonald's and JolliBee), banks, ATMs, currency exchange. For purchases, profitable currency exchange, to government agencies from the main resort of Bohol Alona Beach, and from other places, it is best to come to Tagbilaran. The exchange rate here is better than Panglao, so since you'll almost certainly be passing through the city on arrival at the port anyway, it's best to change here. Exchangers are right on the pier, but a little walk through the center you can find a better rate. For example, on one day the exchange rate in the exchange office in the port was 49.2 pesos per dollar, in the city on North road 50.15 pesos, and on the beach of Alona Beach Panglao-49.8. this means that when exchanging 100 dollars in the port you will not receive about 95 pesos (1.64 USD, see Philippine currency and exchange rate). By the way, the exchange rate in the center in different exchangers is also different. The most profitable can traditionally be found in exchange offices operating under the signs of Western Union or M Lhuillier. Do not forget that for the exchange you will need any document with a photo, and the rights will do.

On the outskirts of Tagbilaran

But it is worth a little to leave the center on the outskirts, as the image of the city changes greatly: it becomes dirty, civilized infrastructure gives way to markets, shops, local cafes. Therefore, if you decide to stay in Tagbilaran, it is best to choose a hotel as close to the center as possible, i.e. in the port area or along Tagbilaran North road.

Weather in Tagbilaran, tourist seasons

The island of Bohol and the city of Tagbilaran are year-round resorts, it is always warm here. Seasons here are determined not by temperature, but by monsoon and rainy periods, which is why it is customary to allocate two or even three seasons. But since the weather in these periods differs slightly, for recreation on the island it is enough to know only the period of low and high seasons.

• The high tourist season runs from November to May. This is the driest time of the year, there is little precipitation, plenty of sun, and not too hot temperatures within 28°C. How to get to Tagbilaran

The city is home to the largest port on the island of Bohol, Tagbilanan Ferry Terminal, so people from neighboring islands most often get here by water on ferries or high-speed boats. The most popular tourist flights: Cebu island, Dumaguete, Siquijor island. From long-distance destinations to Tagbilaran and Bohol in general, it is better to get by air through Panglao Airport, which is 15 kilometers from the city center on Panglao Island, or fly to Cebu Airport, and from there by ferry.   Bohol Panglao International Airport is located on Panglao Island (airport on the map). The Old Airport, which was on the outskirts of Tagbilaran, is no longer operational.

  How to get from Tagbilaran port

  After disembarking from the ship, you will be surrounded with offers to drive to any place on the island by tricycle or car. Prices for tourists are offered very high, so it is better to go to the Main Street and catch there, or go on regular buses or jeepneys. Most places and hotels in the city can generally be reached on foot, and to Alona Beach in Panglao, a motorcycle taxi ride will cost 150 pesos (2.6 USD), on a tricycle from 200 (3.46 USD), and a car taxi from 350 (6.06 USD). The bus station is a 50-peso drive away. At the pier they ask for at least twice as much, but you can bargain, or share the trip with other tourists, and the drivers themselves will help you with this: if you say that you want to share the trip (share ride), they themselves will find you a fellow traveler. The Grab and JoyRide taxi ordering apps still don't work here as of 2020.

  There is also a cheaper option: go to the Main Street Tagbilaran North road, and from it jeepneys leave from different places to all the nearest destinations, including Panglao. But you have to go one and a half kilometers. To find the right place of departure, ask local or jeepney drivers. Previously, jeepneys to Panglao and Alona Beach departed from the intersection of Hontanosas and F. Rocha streets (stop on map), but now there is nothing there.

  Well, the most convenient option is to rent a transport. You can rent a motorcycle right in the port, you will be offered them when you get off the board. You can walk along the pier to the exit, and you will see several rental offices on the right just after the arch marking the entrance to the port. Prices there are very good, you can bargain and take a motorbike from 250 pesos/day, subject to rent for a few days. As a pledge, you are asked to leave your passport or any other document with a photo, you can also leave an internal Russian passport.

• By bus

  Tagbilaran Bus Station

  In the city, there are several jeepney stops on the Main Street Tagbilaran North road that connect the city center with neighboring towns. Long-distance buses arrive/depart at The Dao Integrated Bus Terminal on the outskirts of rdiaom with the Island City Mall Shopping Center (bus station on the map). It can be reached from the center by tricycle for 50 pesos, or by jeepney for 8 pesos. From Alona Beach to the bus station via the airport there is a large air-conditioned bus for 50 pesos, as well as jeepneys for 25 pesos.

  Dao Integrated Terminal bus terminal allows you to go to Loboc, Carmen, Chocolate Hills, Tubigon, Danao, Anda, Jagna, Getafe and other cities of Bohol. Buses depart frequently throughout the day starting at 4am, but after 18 hours there are fewer flights. The city center is compact, you can move around it on foot. A trip on a tricycle costs 10 pesos, but tourists can ask for several times more, especially in the Seaport area. There is also a car taxi here, but the prices are high compared to other cities and resorts in the Philippines.

If you need to get from the center to the bus station or to the suburbs, then it is cheaper to use jpni. Their final stops are in the vicinity of Tagbilaran North road and in different directions they are poisoned from different places. To find the right jeepney, just ask. The fare is 8 pesos.

Low-powered scooters for Island and City travel can be rented directly from Tagbilaran in the city or port. In the city there are many rental offices in the port area, here you can rent a motorcycle immediately after arrival, and get it where you need on the island. You can find rentals walking through the streets, you can ask the tricycle driver to take you to the rental office, or pre-determine the places on the Google map on request Motorbike for rent. For rent they ask 400-500 pesos (6.93 USD) depending on the state of the art. Attractions, things to see and do

There are no attractions in Tagbilaran, except for a museum and a couple of architectural monuments. National Museum Tagbilaran is located in the city center, open from 09:00 to 16:00, Closed on Monday. This is a typical Local History Museum, quite large and neat, although there are not very many exhibits. In addition, in the city you can do only hiking in shopping centers and restaurants, or plunge into provincial non-tourist life, there is nothing else to do.

From Tagbilaran it is convenient to independently visit all other places of Bohol, including the famous Chocolate Hills, dolgopyatov Reserve , etc. This can be done by rented transport or by buses, which very often depart from the main bus station Dao Integrated Terminal on the outskirts of the city next to the Shopping Center Island City Mall to all corners of the island.   Tagbilaran National Museum

  The museum is large, but there is nothing to see, it is empty. It consists of four halls: an exhibition dedicated to the devastating earthquake of 2013; information about the historical sights of the island; wildlife and wealth; culture and art. If you do not study the signatures about the exhibits, you will spend no more than 10 minutes in the museum.
