Bohol is located in the Central Visayas region near Cebu island and the popular Cebu Mactan airport. It is through this airport that it is most convenient to get to Bohol from other countries, although with the opening of the new Panglao airport there were good flights with transfers through Manila and Seoul. Perhaps in the future there will be other options for flights from Russia and other countries.

If you arrive in the country through Cebu airport, or are already traveling in the Philippines, then you can get to Bohol by regular ferry flights from the islands of Cebu, Negros, Siquijor, Misamis Occidental, Camiguin, Mindanao, Leyte, Hilongos.

If you do not want to get to Bohol yourself, consider buying ready-made tours. They are offered with departure from different regions of Russia, and this price includes an individual or group transfer to the hotel with all transfers. It is most profitable to purchase tours directly from tour operators online, and not from intermediary travel agencies. Landing on Panglao Island

Bohol Panglao International Airport is located on Panglao Island (airport on the map). The Old Airport that was on the outskirts of Tagbilaran is no longer operational.

The new airport has the status of an international airport, but the only international flight from Seoul is still operated here, mainly only domestic flights of airlines fly: Manila, Caticlan, Cebu, Maasin, Clark, Davao, Cagayan de Oro.

Airlines fly:

Ready-made international flights to this airport At Reasonable Prices can not be found, so it is better to make your own route with a transfer to Cebu or Manila. IE, first find and buy a ticket to Cebu (closer) or Manila through search engines, and then pick up a ticket on one of the carrier sites above.

If you have any problems with purchasing tickets directly on the websites of local airlines, read How to solve them here – solving the problem with error 444 on the Cebu Pacific website.

It is even easier to fly to Cebu, and there transfer to the ferry to the pier of Tagbilaran, as described below. For information how to get from Cebu Airport to the Marina, see.

Upon arrival at Panglao airport, you can take a taxi to the hotels on Alona Beach or other places on Panglao Island, but they just ask for an unrealistic 350 pesos for a trip of a couple of kilometers. Tricycles are not launched into the territory, so you have to go out of the territory to the main road, and try to catch them there, they ask for 150 pesos, which is actually also very expensive.

But there is also a budget option: from the airport to the market on Alona Beach and to the Tagbilaran Dao Integrated Terminal bus terminal there is an air-conditioned airport bus for 50 pesos.

By ferry

Tagbilaran ferry

On Bohol there are several ports serving different directions. The most popular port for tourists is located in Tagbilaran. This is the most convenient point for arriving on the island, since most flights arrive here. There are also ports at Jagna, Tubigon, Talibon and Jetafe.

There is no single schedule on the internet for ferries in the Philippines, so you will have to check the schedules on separate websites of carriers or on the spot at the ticket offices. Please note that the schedule changes quite often, so it should be rechecked immediately before the planned trip. On weekends, it is better to book tickets to/from Cebu in advance.

The table below shows the schedule of transport to/from the island of Bohol, which are available for online booking. Reservations are made through a verified website 12go.asia, it has Russian, reviews, and user support.

If there is no flight in this list, you can manually check the schedules on the carrier's websites (sites below). They may not have online reservations and user support, but at least you can clarify the schedule when planning a trip, and buy a ticket already on the spot.

And now more about each of the ports:

  • Through the port of Tagbilaran City

This is the most convenient port, because it is the easiest way to get to the main tourist place - Panglao Island.

The port is located almost in the heart of Tagbilaran City (port on map) 10 minutes walk from the main street with banks, shops, ATMs. You can exchange money right at the pier, and the course here is better than on the beaches of Panglao, but if you go a little into the city, you can find an even more profitable course.

After disembarking from the ship, you will be surrounded with offers to drive to any place on the island by tricycle or car. Prices for tourists are offered very high, so it is better to go to the Main Street and catch there, or go on regular buses or jeepneys. Most places and hotels in the city can generally be reached on foot, and to Alona Beach in Panglao, a motorcycle taxi ride will cost 150 pesos (2.69 USD, see Philippine currency and Exchange Rate), on tricycle 200 (3.58 USD), and a car taxi from 350 (6.27 USD). The bus station is a 50-peso drive away. At the pier they ask for at least twice as much, but you can bargain.

There is also a cheaper option: go to the Main Street Tagbilaran North road, and from it jeepneys leave from different places to all the nearest destinations, including Panglao. But you have to go one and a half kilometers. To find the right place of departure, ask local or jeepney drivers. Jeepney fare to Panglao costs 25 pesos, to Baclayon (Baclayon) 8 pesos.

Carriers and destinations in this port:

  • Via the port city of Jagna / Jagna

The port of Jagna is located on the Eastern Shore, 65 kilometers from Tagbilaran and Panglao Island (port of Jagna on the map). It can be reached from the islands of Camiguin (Camiguin) and Mindanao (Mindanao).

Ferries do not run often, in some directions not every day. Schedules on the carriers ' website:

From Jagna, minibuses and V-hire buses depart every hour during the day to the main bus station Dao Integrated Terminal. You can also rent a motorcycle, and go on it to travel around the island, but you will have to return it here.

  • Via Getafe Pier / Getafe

Getafe (Jetafe) is located in the northwest of the island (port of Getafe on the map). It is convenient to sail here from Cebu if you want to get to the center of the island in the city of Danao. Ferries run about five times a day, check on the carrier's website:

  • Via Ubay port

This is a new major port in the north of Bohol near the town of Poblacion (port of Ubay on the map). Almost immediately at the exit from the pier there is a bus terminal for intercity air-conditioned buses to Tagbilaran.

There are flights from Cebu and from the island of Leyte (Leyte) from the ports of Bato and Hilongos. Transportation is performed by J & N Shipping Corporation, but the company does not have its own website. As of 2019, flights are operated according to this schedule:

    • Cebu City-Ubay-daily 21:00 (6 hours on the way)
    • Ubei-Cebu City-Daily 10:00 (6 hours on the way)
    • Bato (Leyte Island) - Cebu City-Daily 08:00 (4 hours on the way)
    • Ubay-Bato (Leyte island) – daily 12:00 (4 hours on the way)
    • Hilongos (Leyte Island) - Cebu City-Daily 08:00 (3 hours on the way)
    • Ubei-Bato (Hilongos island) - daily 09:00 (3 hours on the way)

You can check the schedule on the official website of Bohol Tourism - http://www.boholtourismph.com/port-of-ubay/

  • Via Port Talibon / Talibon Port

Port Talibon is located in the north of the island, 115 kilometers from Tagbilaran and Panglao Island (Port Talibon on the map). It is unremarkable for tourists and serves only as a transshipment point, since there is a seaport here. It is convenient to arrive here from Cebu City, if you plan to continue your trip to the center of the island in the city of Danao( Danao), to the beach resort anda (Anda), or to the Chocolate Hills in the city of Carmen (Carmen) bypassing Tagbilaran.

Ferries to Port Talibon run once a day from Cebu at 09:00. Gabisan Shipping Lines and VG Shipping operate along the route. Both companies are small and have no websites, so be sure to check the schedule locally or on the official Bohol Tourism website - http://www.boholtourismph.com/port-of-talibon/.

  • Via Clarin Port

Port Clarin is located on the western shore of the island (Port Clarin on the map). From this port you can go by bus to Tagbilaran, Carmen( Carmen), Danao (Danao), buses run frequently. It is difficult to name the reason why it can be useful for tourists, can only if you need to get directly to the city of Carmen (Carmen) or Danao (Danao). But in this case, it is much easier to get to Carmen on the route through Tagbilaran, since ferries and buses run more often.

Ferries to Port Clarin run three times a day from Cebu, the cost of 250 pesos. Cordova Inter-island Shipping, which does not have its own website, operates along the route. The schedule is on the official tourist website of the island http://www.boholtourismph.com/port-of-clarin/, but better check on the spot before submitting or see the latest information in the carrier'S FB group.

  • Via Tubigon Port

The Port of Tubigon is located on the western shore of the island (Tubigon Port on the map). It is suitable if you want to get directly to Carmen (Carmen) or Danao (Danao), but in practice you can just as well get to Carmen via Tagbilaran. At the exit from the pier there is a bus station, from where buses leave at least every hour to Tagbilaran, Carmen, Danao.

Ferries to the Port of Tubigon go from Cebu City very often, every 1-2 hours from 4 am to midnight, and there are even night flights. Companies operate along the route:

Transportation on the island of Bohol, what to move

Bohol jeepney

You can move around the island on intercity buses, jeepneys or tricycles, car taxis, rented transport.

Jeepneys ply the cities and suburbs, and are mainly concentrated in the city of Tagbilaran and its surroundings, the fare costs from 8 pesos. Tricycles work like taxis and can be found anywhere, but the prices are quite high compared to non-tourist places in the Philippines, so you should bargain. There is a car taxi, but it is almost twice as expensive as in Manila, for example, and does not work on meters. More precisely, a taxi here should work on meters at a standard adjustable price of 40 pesos for boarding, 13.5 pesos for 1 kilometer of travel and 2 pesos for every minute of travel. But it is almost impossible for tourists to force a taxi driver to turn on the meter, they offer only fixed prices. Applications Grab and JoyRide do not work on Bohol yet.

A great way to move around the island for sightseeing are guided tours. They are offered by on the beaches of Panglao, mostly on Alona Beach. A trip with a group tour is even cheaper than if you go on your own by taxi or tricycle.

And now a little more about the individual modes of transport:

  • Motorcycle rental

    Motobike in the Philippines

This, in our opinion, is the best way to get acquainted with the island. Traffic here is mostly calm (not counting the city of Tagbilaran), there are roads almost everywhere.

Renting low-power scooters to travel around the island is cheaper in the city of Tagbilaran, on the beaches it will be more expensive. Find a rental in the center of the island and on other beaches except Panglao Island is more difficult, but you can. In Tagbilaran, most of the rentals are in the port area, here you can rent a motorbike immediately after arrival, and take it where you need. There are also rentals near the ports in Tubigon, Jagna. You can find rentals on the Google map by searching motorcycle for rent, or ask on the spot in hotels and tricycle drivers.

For rent they ask 400-500 pesos (from 7.17 USD) depending on the state of technology, but relayno bargain up to 350, especially if you take more than 3 days. This is the real price for 2023, so it all depends on your ability and desire to negotiate. As a pledge, they ask for a document, sometimes they agree to a copy.

To manage a motorcycle in the Philippines, theoretically, the national rights of the new model issued in Russia are sufficient, since the country has signed the Vienna Convention on road traffic and undertakes to recognize the national license. rights of other countries parties to the convention. But you must have an open category A, otherwise there may be problems when meeting with the police. Ideally, you can make yourself an international driver's license in the form of a book, which is issued without passing exams through the website of public services for 1600 rubles.

As for renting a car, so far such a service in Bohol is very expensive, from 5000 pesos (from 89.57 USD) per day of rental. In fact, it turns out that it is cheaper to rent a minivan or car through a travel agency or hotel to travel around the island on tourist routes than to rent a car and manage it yourself.

  • By bus

    Tagbilaran Bus Station

Many intercity and suburban buses run around the island, which can be reached during the day from almost anywhere on the island to any other. You only need to leave early, because there are flights mainly in the afternoon starting in the early morning, and in the afternoon, and especially after 18 hours, the number of flights decreases. The main transport hub is the city of Tagbilaran, where the Dao Integrated Terminal bus station is located on the outskirts of the city next to the Island City Mall (bus station on the map). Most often, to get from one place to another, you will have to go with a transfer through this bus station, there is no other way. In general, there are few direct routes between different settlements, all lead mainly to Tagbilaran.

    Here are some routes:

    • Tagbilaran Dao Integrated Terminal-Alona Beach. Often there are air-conditioned buses for 50 pesos (through the airport) and jeepneys for 25 pesos.
    • Tagbilaran Dao Integrated Terminal - Sikatuna. On it you can reach the reserve with Tarsier Sanctuary tarsiers. Depart often, the cost is up to 50 pesos, the journey is 30 minutes.
    • Tagbilaran Dao Integrated Terminal - Jagna. Vans depart every hour during the day, an hour and a half on the road, 100 pesos.
