Panglao is known for its wonderful beaches, but not all of them and the tourist areas related to them are as good as they are described by tour operators and advertising guides. In fact, as elsewhere in this region, Panglao has a weak bottom slope, which is why you can swim comfortably only during high tides.

Important! Many guidebooks and reviews mention the strong influence of low tide on local beaches (this is true), and give recommendations on what time of day there are tides, and when it is better to swim. But such recommendations do not correspond to reality, since the ebb and flow depend not on the time of day, but on the position of the moon and sun. Of the total number of beaches in Panglao, we would recommend only two that are worth staying at. This is the most popular and developed Alona Beach, and less developed but more pleasant to relax Dumaluan Beach (pronounced Dumaluan). The rest, although they have a place to be, are not very suitable for a beach holiday, unless you stay in one of the hotels with its own territory and access directly to the shore on a well-groomed and clean hotel beach.

Keep in mind that at the bottom there are sea urchins, and even on sandy beaches, and not just among the stones. Therefore, it is highly recommended to go into the water in special shoes (coral slippers) or at least in flip-flops.

Alona Beach / Alona Beach

Without a doubt, this is one of the best beaches in Central Visayas, and definitely the best in Panglao and Bohol. Moreover, both the beach itself and the developed tourist area next to it are good here. Alona Beach has a length of just under a kilometer, the sand is white, fine and clean (the shore is constantly cleaned). This is one of the few beaches in this region of the country where the influence of low tide is not very strong. Or rather, the tides are felt here, it becomes shallow, but at least there are no ugly driftwood, stones and piles of seaweed on the shore, everything is clean.

On the shore there is a chain of cafes and restaurants, diving centers, massage parlors, there are a couple of shops with souvenirs and goods for tourists, travel agencies. There are no sun loungers and umbrellas for rent (there are only on the eastern tip, belong to the hotel), but you can come with your mattress or towel, sit in the shade under a palm tree. Of the entertainment here offer boat tours to the islands or a walk along the coast, but traditional water entertainment like bananas, jet skis, parachutes, etc.there are few, about them you need to agree in advance. And here you can do a good snorkeling almost at the very shore, or sail further 100 meters to the reef. The mask and tube can be rented for 100 pesos (1.74 USD, see for more information about the Philippine currency).

Alona Beach is located on the southern shore of Panglao Island (Alona Beach on the map). From the new airport you can get here by bus for 50 pesos, taxi from 350 pesos, tricycle from 100 pesos (see details, how to get to Panglao and Alona Beach here.... You can get directly to the shore along Alona Beach Rd, which goes down past the McDonald's restaurant, The Seven-Eleven store and a number of travel agencies. There are still a couple of small alleys leading to the beach, but blocked by hotels.

Dumaluan Beach / Dumaluan Beach

Dumaluan Beach (pronounced Dumalyun), aka Bagobo (Bagobo Beach), aka White Beach (White Beach), and AKA Sunrise Beach (Sunrise Beach) – all this is the same beach with a length of almost three kilometers. It is not interrupted throughout its entire length, but for some reason it is called differently in different areas, perhaps because of the names of the resorts.

Dumaluan Beach is a great beach, and perhaps someone will seem even better than Alona Beach. It is very long, clean, with white sand, and deserted. Its only drawback is the strong influence of low tide, although even during low water it continues to be beautiful, and you can go away from the shore and swim. There is no entertainment and amenities. At the western end of the beach (from Alon) is one of the two Russian-speaking diving centers in Panglao - DOFLEINI Dive Center. And by the way, even without diving and snorkeling, just while walking along the shore in shallow water, you can see some marine life here.

The area along Dumaluan Beach is poorly developed, there is almost no tourist infrastructure, everything is like in the village. But there are several expensive hotels with their own territory (resorts).

Also along the main ring road there are a couple of inexpensive hostels and guest houses where you can stay, and walk to the beach or ride on rented transport.

Dumaluan Beach is three kilometers from Alona Beach (Dumaluan Beach on the map). From the main ring road, several alleys lead to it, some of which are blocked by hotel areas, and the guard asks for 250 pesos for travel and parking. You do not need to pay anything, the beach is absolutely Free, Just look for another way, there are a lot of them. The easiest way to crank on the first turn from Alona on the Sunrise Beach sign, as of the beginning of 2021, everything is open there, and you can park for free.

Doljo Beach

This is a good and popular tourist area, the second most developed and popular after Alon. The atmosphere here is rustic, but there are several cafes and restaurants, a diving center, a couple of travel agencies along the main road. And two kilometers away is the capital of the island, where there is a Seven Eleven store, a market, ATMs, inexpensive restaurants and cafes, motorcycle rental. But directly in the area of Dolho beach rental we could not find.

But the beach here can be called good with a big stretch. For some reason, some guidebooks describe it as the best, perhaps because the authors of such descriptions have never been to Panglao. In fact, it is impossible to swim at low tide on Dolho Beach, it is too shallow. Yes, and at high tide is not very pleasant here, because under the water grows a huge amount of algae, thrown ashore by the waves. In the low season, algae is not removed, they rot and stink, it is simply impossible to be here. In the high season (from January to May), they try to clean the coast, but to no avail, it still remains ugly and dirty. The only option here to stay and swim is small areas related to hotels. Directly from the main road to the beach there are a couple of driveways and walkways, you can park a motorbike for free or for a symbolic 10 pesos.

Momo Beach

Momo Beach, aka Bil-isan (Public Beach) is quite a famous place as tourist boats depart from here to Cebu island in Oslob. But the beach itself pulls only a three. It is Sandy, long, but by its nature dirty due to algae growing under water, and thrown up by waves on the shore. Add garbage and locals who come here on vacation (there is something like a cafe-camp for locals) and leave mountains of garbage. Sometimes the beach is cleaned, but more often it is very dirty. The Momo Beach area is a wild wilderness, where there is not even an elementary shop or cafe.

Momo is located in the North 8 kilometers from Alon (Momo Beach on the map). The last 500 meters of the way is a bad road, and it is very difficult to drive along the beach after the rain, huge puddles appear.

Sabukaw Beach

Sabukaw Beach) is also called Panglao Beach or Mithi Beach. A relatively clean sandy beach with a length of about 500 meters, almost half of which is occupied by a three-star resort Mithi Resort and Spa ★★★ with its own territory. The beach opposite the hotel is perfectly clean, but the passage there is illegally prohibited. On the remaining part of the coast there are cafes, where mostly locals rest on weekends, and tourists here are a rarity. In general, it is worth saying that Sabukau Beach is not so bad, and you can come here to relax and swim at high tide during the day. But if you stay here, you will find yourself locked in the walls of the hotel, outside of which there is only the village, and no hint of tourist infrastructure. By the way, nearby is Hinagdanan cave, you can combine their visits.

Sabukau Beach is located in the north of the island, it is the farthest from Alon, it is 13 kilometers away (Sabukaw Beach on the map). The passage and passage through Mithi Resort and Spa is closed, but it is easy to drive through the village along the hotel fence, a narrow asphalt road will lead almost to the very shore.

Bikini Beach / Bikini Beach

Bikini Beach / Bikini Beach, aka Pearl Resort Beach - a remote and secluded beach, like Sabukau Beach (Panglao Beach), mostly popular with locals. You can swim at high tide, but then the strip of sand is very narrow, you can only stay under the trees near the road. At low tide, the water goes far away, revealing stones and leaving algae. Part of the coast is occupied by The Pearl Resort Hotel, and besides it there is nothing from the infrastructure. Locals come here from Tagbilaran for the weekend and arrange picnics with karaoke, kebabs and alcohol. If you want to communicate and make friends with the locals, then you will like it here, there are no other reasons to go here or settle here.

Bikini Beach is 10 kilometers from Alona (Bikini Beach on the map). There is a narrow but good asphalt road leading to the beach and along it, there are many places where you can park vehicles for free.

Danao Beach / Danao Beach

It is a small beach on the far southwestern tip of Panglao. The beach is so-so: very shallow and dirty. Part of the coast is occupied by hotels, but even when the staff cleans the sand from dirt, algae still remain in the water, which washes the waves to the shore. You can swim only during the strongest tides, and even then you have to walk very far from the shore. But at low tide, the water goes very far, leaving debris on the shore and standing on the bottom of the boat.

The area here is undeveloped, an ordinary village without cafes and restaurants. Although in fairness it is worth noting that there is a shop, motorcycle rental, and on the adjacent stretch of beach to the East is the Russian diving center DCC, and several more diving shops and centers in the village a little further from the shore. For this reason, the place is suitable for recreation except for lovers of diving or lovers of silence, and if you prefer a beach holiday and at least some civilization, it is better to go to Alona Beach.

Danao Beach is off the main ring road (Danao Beach on the map), go to it through the village on narrow roads. In one place there will be a fork where you need to turn right, and there look for the exit to the shore through the hotels. If you turn left, you will get to the Russian diving center DCC on the shore, and a terrible shore, not adapted for recreation at all.

Flushing Meadows Beach

There is no name for this beach, so we decided to designate it by the name of the resort Flushing Meadows Resort ★★★★, next to which it is located. The beach is small, 200 meters long. One half is concrete reinforcement, the other is sand. And in the middle of the pier, going into the sea. In principle, you can come here to relax and swim if you wish, but it will not surprise you with beautiful views and a clean Coast. But this is one of the convenient places for coastal diving and snorkeling. Experienced diving enthusiasts come here with their own or rented equipment, and go on foot to the depth on their own.

Hinakhakan Beach / Hinakhakan Beach

This is a very secluded and secluded place, about which few people know. The beach is only a few tens of meters wide, rocky, and at first glance not suitable for recreation. But if you walk along the shore along the rocks to the left, you will find yourself in a very secluded place where you can sit in the shade of trees and rocks to sunbathe topless, swim at high tide or snorkel. But be careful: there are a lot of sharp stones at the bottom, enter the water only in special shoes.

Hinakhakan Beach is located on the southern shore of Panglao, 14 kilometers from Alona (Hinakhakan Beach on the map). There is a dirt road on the descent, be careful in the rain. The last 15 meters is a concrete staircase down.
