How to get to Tioman

Tioman Island is a protected area and when entering the island by any means you are required to pay 5 ringgit to the Wildlife Conservation Fund.

By plane

On Tioman there is a small airport, which has the status of an international one. By bus and ferry

Most visitors to the island use instead of air travel a cheaper way to get to the island – a composite route by bus and ferry.

In general, such a composite route consists of a trip to the city of Mersing in the state of Johor, where the ferry pier is located, and then by ferry from Mersing to Tioman.

It is easy enough to get to Mersing using the developed bus network of Malaysia. Direct flights are available from at least Kuala Lumpur, Malacca, Butterworth (next to Fr. Penang), Alor Setar (near Langkawi Island) and also from Singapore. It is best to use the night crossing to be at the pier in Mersing early in the morning, otherwise you may miss the ferry, and in this case you will have to spend the night in the city or hire an expensive private boat.

In Mersing, buses arrive at the bus station, which is a short walk from the ferry pier.

You can get to Mersing by taxi from Kuala Lumpur or Kuala Lumpur airport, but the trip will cost no less than a flight by plane (from Kuala Lumpur about 280 ringgit).

After reaching the pier in Mersing, you can take the Blue Water Express fast ferry to reach Tioman. On the island, the ferry makes stops in the villages of Kampong Genting, Kampong Paya, Kampong Tetek (disembarkation at Berjaya Hotel, Tetek village or Juara), Kampong Air Batang, Kampong Salang.

But there is one peculiarity here: due to weather conditions and the effects of Tides, flights are often canceled or reduced to one morning flight per day.
