Beaches and tourist areas of Penang. Where to stay

• Tourist district, Old Town of Georgetown

  Old Town Georgetown Street Food

  This is the most popular and most conveniently located area for tourist accommodation in Georgetown (district on the map). If you come to Penang to get acquainted with its sights, you need to stop here. Most hotels and hostels of different levels of price and quality are concentrated here. Most budget accommodation options are also here. The city's attractions, transportation hubs and public transport routes, including free tourist shuttle bus, are located and take place here.

  The district is formed by the streets Chulia Street (Lebuh Chulia), Love Lane (Lorong Love), Leith Street (Lebuh Leith), Penang Road (Jalan Penang), Transfer Road (Jalan Transfer) and others. Chulia Street (Lebuh Chulia) is the most touristic. There are many hostels and hostels, restaurants and cafes, markets, travel agencies, transport rental, exchange offices. It starts from the station Weld Quay, but you need to go a little further down the street, 500 meters deep into the city to find the most convenient and inexpensive hotels.

  Gurney Drive is famous for its open-air restaurants, cafes and food courts, and is the most popular place for tourist dinners in Penang. There is also an embankment and a conditional sandy beach, but even the locals do not swim here.

• Batu Ferringhi Beach

  The disadvantage of accommodation here is the remoteness of about 10 kilometers along the road to Georgetown, where the main attractions of the island are concentrated. But, if necessary, you can get to the city by city bus number 101, which follows to the station Weld Quay and the station Komtar. The fare is 2.7 ringgit (currency of Malaysia, exchange rate). There are no attractions on Batu Ferringi itself.

• Tanjung Bungah Beach

  The beaches of the resort area of Tanjung Bungah (Tanjung Bungah, Tanjung Bungah or Tanjong Bungah) are not as good as on Batu Ferringhi, but Tanjung Bungah is located twice as close to George Town, just 5 kilometers from the center (Tanjung Bungah on the map).   We would recommend staying here only if you do not put beach holidays in the first place and are ready to limit yourself to sunbathing by the pool.

• Tanjung Tokong Beach

  

  In our opinion, this place should not be called a place of beach holidays, but rather just a tourist area. It is located almost directly to Georgetown on the north coast of the island.Tanjung Tokong on the map).

  Choose this place if you want to be in Georgetown and at the same time get a quiet holiday a little away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

• Teluk Bahang Beach

There is no infrastructure here, there are few people. This is a great place for a secluded beach holiday, but you can not settle here, just nowhere. It can be reached by boat from the jetty at Telug Bahang (approximately 50 ringgit), or by walking along a 3-kilometer jungle trail.

• Kerachut Beach

• Teluk Kampi Beach

  It is the most isolated and inaccessible beach in Penang .Teluk Kampi on the map). To get on it, you first need to get to Kerachut Beach, and then another hour of travel through the jungle.
