Island Penang is 300 kilometers from Kuala Lumpur (Penang on an interactive map (). You can get to it from the capital by plane, train, bus. Conveniently, the island is connected to the mainland by a bridge, and therefore you can directly get here by bus without changing. The train is also a good option, and although it does not go to the island itself, there is a railway station nearby on the mainland in the town of Butterworth, from which you can reach the ferry to the island on foot.

By train
The railway does not go directly to Penang, but a branch of the main railway of Malaysia passes through the city of Butterworth on the shore. Near Butterworth railway station (railway station on the map) there is a passenger ferry that takes you to the pier in 20 minutes (Weld Quay on map) directly to the center of Georgetown on Penang . The ferry departs approximately every 15 minutes from 06:15 to 00:40, costs 1.2 ringgit.
From Kuala Lumpur station Sentral Kuala Lumpur (KL Sentral) There are up to 5 trains daily to Butterworth. Travel time is 4 hours, cost from 54 ringgit (about 13 US dollars).

By bus
Penang can be reached by bus both on flights directly entering the island via the bridge, and on buses to the city of Butterworth (then by ferry). From Kuala Lumpur depart from TBS. They are sent very often, almost every half hour. The journey is 5 hours, the cost is from 8 dollars.
Buses that go directly to Penang Island terminate at the bus station Sungai Nibong Bus Terminal (Terminal Bas Express SG Nibong). The bus station in Butterworth is close to the railway station and ferry, and getting from there to Penang will not be difficult (see above).
