Pantai Tengah Beach (also known as Tengah Beach) is the second most popular and developed beach in Langkawi, second only to Pantai Cenang. Located on the same coastline as Cenang and directly adjacent to it, separated only by a small headland and the Underwater World aquarium (Pantai Tengah on map). You can't walk from one beach to the other along the shore due to the rocky headland; the only way is via the road.
The beach stretches just over 1 kilometer. The atmosphere here is more relaxed than at Cenang, making it a good choice for families with children. There are water activities available, but far fewer people. The seabed slope is steeper than at Cenang, but the impact of tides and waves is less. The sand is quite coarse in some areas, and there are even patches of black sand. Unfortunately, it's not cleaned as well as Cenang. More precisely, it is cleaned, but not everywhere — in some spots, trash remains.
Here too, cafes and restaurants line the main road, and you can find travel agencies, but on a smaller scale. There are very few shops.
If you head to the southern end of the beach (further down on the map), away from Pantai Cenang, you'll find secluded hotels with their own grounds and direct beach access, at reasonable prices — not like the five-star hotels on the more remote beaches. And if you get tired of the peace and quiet, you can always take a walk to the livelier neighboring Cenang for some entertainment.
Our verdict: Tengah is the perfect choice if you want a quiet vacation within easy reach of the developed tourist hub of Cenang. Literally a 20–30 minute walk (1.5–2 kilometers) or 8 ringgit (1.96 USD) by taxi — and you're right next to the shopping malls, markets, shops, and the high concentration of travel agencies and cafes.
How to Get to Pantai Tengah Beach
The easiest way to get to Tengah is by taxi. From Langkawi Airport, you can book a Grab — this is the most cost-effective option. The fare on the saver rate starts from 20 ringgit (4.9 USD), but depending on demand and time of day, it's usually 30–35 ringgit (7.35 USD). Official taxis (painted minivans) cost more — about one and a half times as much.
If you're arriving at Kuah Jetty, Grab also works: the trip to Tengah takes about 20–30 minutes and costs from 25 ringgit (6.13 USD). For more details on all transport options on the island, check out our article Transport in Langkawi: Getting Around.
Beach Infrastructure and Features
Where to Stay in Tengah
Tengah offers both budget guesthouses and mid-range hotels. The main advantage is the peaceful atmosphere. If you're looking for seclusion, check out the southern part of the beach (closer to the tip, further down on the map). There you'll find hotels with their own grounds and direct beach access, often at lower prices than similar options in Cenang.
If you prefer to have all amenities close by, choose hotels in the northern part, closer to Cenang. From there, it's an easy 10–15 minute walk to the livelier area.

Beach Activities: Water Sports Prices
Tengah also has water activities, but fewer than at Cenang, and significantly fewer people. Boats and jet skis don't zip along the entire shore, so swimming here is more relaxed. Prices for activities are the same as at the neighboring beach, and you can haggle on the spot.
Prices are listed per session. A 10–20% discount is definitely realistic with some bargaining.
| Activity | Price (RM) | Price (in RUB) | Jet ski, 15 min | 150 | 36.75 USD | Jet ski, 30 min | 200 | 49 USD | Large jet ski for 4 people | 180 | 44.1 USD | Banana boat (1–5 people) | 150 | 36.75 USD | Donut boat (5 people) | 200 | 49 USD | Parasailing (per person) | 250 | 61.25 USD | Wakeboard | 200 | 49 USD | Jet ski safari to 4 spots (per jet ski) | from 650 | from 159 USD |
