Overview & Is It Worth Visiting

Wat Tham Kisap Temple (Lucky Temple)

Wat Tham Kisap (also called Lucky Temple) is a Thai Buddhist temple in Langkawi, located at the foot of a marble cliff near Wat Koh Wanararm temple. It got its unofficial name "Lucky Temple" because of the abundance of sculptures believed to bring good luck.

The temple is interesting primarily for its large number of animal and mythical creature sculptures: you'll see figures of tigers, elephants, snakes, fish, birds, as well as statues of monks and mythological characters. They're all arranged in the open air, among the trees, creating a unique atmosphere. There's also a large statue of a seated golden Buddha.

Of particular note is the small cave section of the temple, located inside the marble cliff. Inside the cave is a Buddha statue, and this spot is considered especially sacred. It's quiet and cool inside — definitely worth a visit to soak up the atmosphere.

Very close by, just 100 meters along the cliff, is a small Hindu temple called Kuil Sri Muniswarar Selat Panchor. It's also worth a quick look, especially the shallow flat cave behind the temple buildings.

Both temples are worth stopping at if you're passing by on the main road, but it's probably not worth making a special trip to this part of the island just for them. Be careful — there are many stray dogs in the area.

🚶 How to Get There

Wat Tham Kisap Temple is in the west of Langkawi, about two kilometers from the center of Kuah town, and a couple of hundred meters from the main road (on Langkawi map). The turn to the temple is easy to miss, marked only by a small sign visible when driving from Kuah.

You can get there by taxi (Grab) or rental transport. A ride from Pantai Cenang or Tengah beaches will cost about 25–30 ringgit. Turning towards the temple from the main road at the sign and driving 200 meters, you'll reach a fork — the Buddhist temple Wat Tham Kisap is on the left, and the Hindu temple is on the right. Parking is free.
