Blue Pool Langkawi: A Secluded Jungle Pond

Article and section navigation

Blue Pool Description

Blue Pool, Langkawi

Blue Pool (also referred to as Blue Lagoon, Blue Pond, and sometimes Blue Waterfall or Secret Pool) is a small but very picturesque natural spot tucked away in the Langkawi jungle. It's only about 800 meters from the famous Telaga Tujuh waterfall (Seven Wells), yet it's almost never crowded.

The pool is really quite small — just a few meters across. It's shaded by trees, and when sunlight filters through the leaves, the water sometimes takes on a slight bluish tint, which is how the place got its name. A small but pretty waterfall flows into the pool, keeping the water cool and fresh. The water temperature here is just as refreshing as in the seven wells at Telaga Tujuh — it's the same stream, after all.

The spot isn't completely wild — locals and a few tourists who know about the trail do drop by from time to time. But there's zero infrastructure: it's just a patch of forest by the water. Don't expect changing rooms, cafes, or loungers. What you get instead is a chance to escape the noise, swim in peace, and feel like an explorer.

Is It Worth Visiting?

The answer depends on what you're looking for. If you want to:

  • sunbathe and comfortably relax by the water — you're better off staying at the Seven Wells. They have gazebos, restrooms, and more spacious areas.
  • get a feel for the wild jungle, swim in seclusion, and grab some unique photos — then it's definitely worth the short hike.

Blue Pool is really a place for a walk. There are no crowds, but there's also no resort-style service. It's simply a beautiful natural spot that's nice to visit after seeing the main waterfall, to extend your time in the jungle a little longer.

If you decide to take a dip, the water is cool and refreshing, but not too cold — about the same as at the Seven Wells. Just keep in mind there are no changing facilities, so you'll need to plan for that.

Safety: Monkeys, Ticks and Leeches

As with any trail in the tropical forest, it's wise to follow some basic safety rules. Here are the key points:

  • Monkeys: they're around here too. Don't leave your belongings unattended, and don't feed the animals. How to behave around monkeys.
  • Ticks and Lyme disease: the risk is real. Check yourself after the walk. Use repellent.
  • Land leeches: they can appear on the trail during the rainy season. They're not dangerous, but they can be startling. What to do about leeches.

🕐 Opening Hours

Blue Pool is accessible during the same hours as the start of the eco-trail at the Seven Wells — official access is permitted from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM. Since the trail is unlit, we strongly advise planning your walk so that you're back at the parking lot before dark (around 6:30–7:00 PM depending on the season).

💵 Entry Fee

There is no separate fee for visiting Blue Pool. However, to get on the trail, you need to pass through the entrance to the Telaga Tujuh waterfall and pay the conservation area entry fee — 10 ringgit (2.47 USD) per person.

🚶 How to Get There

Since Blue Pool is in the same area as the Seven Wells, you first need to get to them (Seven Wells on the map). By taxi (Grab) from Pantai Cenang and Tengah beaches, a ride to the Seven Wells parking lot costs from 25 ringgit (6.16 USD), and from 30 ringgit (7.4 USD) in the evening. If you have a rental, parking is 1 ringgit for a motorbike (0.25 USD) and 2 ringgit for a car (0.49 USD). From there, you have to walk up to the Seven Wells — about 800 meters with an elevation gain of 150 meters, which takes 20–40 minutes.

Blue Pool is further on, past the wells, along the trail that leads to Mount Mat Cincang (Peak 701). It's another 15-20 minutes, but now on a forest trail. Blue Pool isn't directly on this main trail; it's a short detour, marked by a sign (Blue Pool on the map).
