How to get from Jakarta to Bali

The island of Bali is located far from the capital of Indonesia, the city of Jakarta. In a straight line capital Bali Islands the city of Denpassar is located at a distance of almost 1000 kilometers from Jakarta, but if you move by land, you will have to overcome almost 1200 kilometers. Despite such a long distance, this route is quite popular with independent tourists, as it allows you to visit the capital of the country and relax on the paradise island. In addition, it may even be cheaper to get to Bali this way than directly, since the cheapest flights to Indonesia fly to Jakarta.

By plane

There are many daily flights from Jakarta to Bali by local budget and international airlines, including the state-owned AirAsia. Flights are operated from two airports:

• The main international airport of Soekarno-Hatta International (Soekarno–Hatta International, IATA code - CGK)
• Halim Perdanakusuma Old Airport (Halim Kuzuma, Halim Perdanakusuma International, IATA code - HLP)

In Bali, all flights are made to Denpasar's Ngurah Rai International Airport, which is located almost in the heart of the tourist area of Kuta. From there, the place of rest can be reached by taxi, and some hotels can even be reached on foot.

The cost of flights is relatively low, about $ 90 in both directions without luggage, but sometimes with special offers you can buy tickets in advance for almost half the price. Fly an hour and a half.

By bus

If you need to get from Jakarta to Bali as cheaply as possible, then by bus it can be done for only 380,000 rupees (24.25 USD). True, the trip will take a day. If you buy more expensive bus tickets, you will get there in 16-18 hours. In general, the bus ride is quite comfortable for the money: the buses are air-conditioned, make stops for the toilet and meals.

In Bali, buses make stops in several places, but almost everyone has the same end point – this is the Terminal Mengwi bus terminal near Denpasar. It is best to buy tickets to it, as it is closest to the resort areas of Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, etc. From this terminal, they can be reached by taxi or minibuses. If you purchase the cheapest tickets for 380,000 rupees, then you will be dropped off in the northwestern part of Bali immediately after crossing the strait by ferry, and you will have to get to the resorts for a long time by taxi or with bus transfers.

You can buy tickets at the bus stations in Jakarta Pulo Gebang and Pondok Pinang, but it is better on the websites https://www.redbus.id/en / (in English) or 12go.asia (in Russian). The latter option is convenient because there is a Russian-speaking support service in case something goes wrong, and the exact places of departure and arrival of buses are indicated on the map. So all that remains is to find and book a flight, receive an e-ticket by mail, and arrive at the right place for boarding.

By train

Getting by train from Jakarta to Bali is not just a trip, but a whole journey. If you only need to get there, then don't even consider this option. If you want to visit other places along the way, this is a great option.

There is no way to get to Bali directly by train, trains do not go there. You will have to:

• First, take the train from Jakarta to Surabaya.
• In Surabaya, change the train to the city of Banyuwangi.
• In Banyuwangi, you need to take a ferry (runs around the clock, located next to the railway station), which will take you to the island of Bali in the city of Gilimanuk.
• From Gilimanuk you will have to get to your holiday destination in Bali by taxi, or local buses with transfers to Denpasar or other resorts.

You can make your task a little easier if you take one of the passing buses directly to Denpasar in Banyuwangi. But there is nothing to think about doing the entire route from Jakarta to Bali without stopping for an overnight stay at least in Surabaya, because it is too difficult to travel by local trains, because there are only seats there. Ideally, it is better to plan this route with stops in Yogyakarta (to see Borobudur and Prambanan), Surabaya, Probolingo (to visit the Bromo volcano), and from Banyuwangi or Jember to visit the sulfur volcano Ijen.
