Changgu Beach and District (Changgu) is also called Batu Bolong Beach or Batu Bolong Beach. There are also names Nelayan beach, Berawa beach, Pererenan beach, all this is also near this area. It is located on the western coast north of Seminyak and 20 kilometers from the airport (Changu on the map).
It is considered that Changu is an exclusively party and youth area, that it is very noisy here and parties are always held. And also that the sea here is often choppy and big waves for surfing, and the beach is ugly and the sand is black. Perhaps this is partly true, but not everything is unambiguous. In fact, when we were here, the sea was relatively calm for three days by Balinese standards, and elderly people and families with children enjoyed relaxing here. Well, as for the black sand and the fact that no one swims here, as they also say in some guidebooks, this is generally, apparently, an artistic exaggeration. There really is not very beautiful gray and dark sand here, but it is located north of the district, there is also a rocky shore. And in the center and south of the normal yellow sand, all look at the photo below.
The infrastructure in the area and on the beach is well developed. There are motorcycle rentals, currency exchanges, many cafes and restaurants. There are no chain supermarkets and shopping centers, but everything you need can be bought at local grocery stores and numerous shops. The infrastructure is especially well developed closer to the beach. However, in our experience, the exchange rate is worse here, so if you need to change money profitably, it's better to do it in Kuta or Denpasar.
In general, in our opinion, this is an excellent developed area and a beautiful beach, where everything is there for recreation, and at the same time a more relaxed atmosphere, except for sometimes noisy youth parties on the beach.
What to see in Changu, attractions and entertainment
There are no attractions in the Changu area and the immediate vicinity. Relatively close to Changu (12 km) is one of the iconic and very popular tourist temples Tanakh Lot and a small Batu Bolong. You can read our guide to the sights of Bali or download points from our map and use them for trips.
To see something interesting, you need to rent a motorcycle (there are rentals here), hire a private guide with a car, or buy excursions from travel agencies. In our personal experience, we have not seen inexpensive group tours on sale here, only individual trips with a driver are offered. But perhaps the situation will change over time, and it will be possible to buy group tours. In the meantime, you can use the purchase of excursions on the Klook sites or Trip.com (accepts Russian cards).
Entertainment is much better here, especially for lovers of fun and active pastime. There are bars on the streets and the beach. beach parties are organized, various promotions and trainings are held. But, perhaps, the main business card of the district is active sports and entertainment. There is surfing training and board rental, kitesurfing, bike tours, gyms and fitness rooms, yoga, even a kind of climbing wall.
There is no entertainment for children here.
How to get to Changu
Changu is an independent full–fledged recreation area, it is located north of Seminyak, 20 kilometers from the airport, it is also called the north of Kuta (Changgu on the map). But in general, there is a serious confusion with the names of all these areas, so just follow the point on the map, Changu is located exactly where the point stands here.
Public transport does not go here, you can only get there by taxi or rented transport. By taxi from the airport via Grab, Maxim, GoJek, etc. applications, you can get from 100,000 rupees (5.54 USD). Just keep in mind that the local villages don't really like taxi drivers on applications, and maybe a taxi won't get to your hotel, you'll have to walk a little.
But if you want to come here on your motorbike or car, including just to swim on the beach during the day, then there are no problems: you will come to the area and you will be able to park.
Hotels and accommodation in Changu, where to stay
It is considered that hotels in Changu are very expensive, there is no budget accommodation. But in fact, you can find a room for two here from $ 15, it will just be a guest house 5-10 minutes walk from the beach. If you want to be near the beach, you can find good options for $ 20, and even with breakfast. There are also 4 and 5 star hotels here, the price for them starts from $ 80. In any case, given the popularity and uniqueness of this area and the beach, it is best to book accommodation in advance, at least a week in advance, or even better a month in advance.
