South Bali

The most popular tourist part of the island. Most of the Russian tourists are located here, visiting other areas only in the form of excursions.   Kuta. Once a quiet fishing village Kuta has become one of the most popular and well-equipped resorts in Indonesia. This is a modern urban area with many hotels and restaurants for every taste and budget, large shopping centers. On the streets and on the beach, pesky retailers earn their living by obsessively selling their goods to tourists, and unscrupulous businessmen earn their living by selling timeshare and excursions at inflated prices. The location of the town is very convenient – it practically rests on the runway of the airport of Ngurah Rai.

  Kuta is a popular holiday destination among tourists with low incomes, surfers and "descendants of hippies". This is an ideal place in Bali for young people looking for a variety of entertainment. After sunset, the city plunges into the atmosphere of night entertainment and debauchery, although until Pattaya, of course, is still very far away.

  There are almost no interesting sights here, but surfing, beach holidays, shopping and evening entertainment and belly holidays are more than enough. The beach is very beautiful and clean, despite the fact that it is almost always crowded. For beginner surfers, this is an ideal place - a sandy beach with no dangerous rocks or corals and constant moderate waves. If you decide to join the board for the first time at all, then you won't have to look for a surf instructor here for a long time, it's enough just to appear on the beach.

  As for the beach and the ocean, there are always waves. The constantly blowing wind, on the one hand, creates a favorable climate that does not allow you to die from the heat, and on the other hand, the waves here never stop during the year. Only in the evenings, when the wind subsides, you can more or less comfortably swim in the ocean. During the day, the beaches of Kuta are a paradise for surfers. The strongest waves are observed here in summer, and in winter they are slightly weaker. Low tides do not change the appearance of the beach much, just the water goes further.

  It is in Kuta that you can find the most cheap hotels for budget holidays, and at the same time very chic five-star hotels.

  Legian. Legian, as well as Kuta and Seminyak, is located along the sandy beach in the middle between them. As already mentioned, the boundaries between the three cities, located in a chain from south to north, are almost erased, as are the differences between them.

  Legian is the same Kuta, only a little quieter. Just a little bit. The music here is a little quieter, there are a little less people on the street in the evenings. Surfers on the beach are a little less crazy. And the rest is the same. You can only find out if you are in Kuta or Legian either by asking someone on the street, or if you know exactly which street the border between these cities runs along.

  Just like Kuta - Legian, this is a great place for the young and energetic, if you didn't have enough room in a hotel in Kuta, or you just confused the two towns.

  As for the beach and the ocean, it is exactly the same as in Kuta - wavy and filled with surfers.

  Just like in Kuta, it is quite easy to find an inexpensive hotel for your stay here.

• Seminyak. Moving further north from Kuta to Legian, from Legian to... we will get to Seminyak. Similarly, walking along the beach or along the main street in the direction opposite to Kuta, you will get from Legian to Seminyak without even noticing it. The picture around is changing gradually and imperceptibly, it is getting quieter and calmer, there is almost no traffic on the street. If so, then most likely you are already in Seminyak – a quiet, peaceful beach town.

  There are slightly more expensive and comfortable ones in Seminyak hotels, sometimes located secluded and with its own beach. Rest here is serene and calm, like in a boarding house. In the evenings, you won't see cafes and restaurants on the street with waiters grabbing you by the sleeves at the entrance. And there are almost no tourists on the street. It seems that all the tourists are hiding in their rooms at the air conditioners.

  In general, if you are looking for a quiet and secluded holiday so that no one bothers you – then welcome to Seminyak. Just keep in mind that the sea here is the same as in Kuta: it is choppy and wavy almost all year round.

• Sanur. Sanur is another quiet and peaceful town lying on the ocean. Sanur is the oldest beach resort in Bali and one of the largest cities on the island.

  Accommodation here is more expensive than in Kuta, but also a little cheaper than in Nusa Dua. Excellent beaches with water activities and hotels, lots of greenery and fruit orchards, restaurants and modern entertainment centers are complemented by traditional Balinese theatrical performances and dances, which allows you to get an idea of the real Balinese culture and lifestyle of local residents. You can recommend this place to families with children or mature couples. A great combination of cost, relaxing holidays, and quality.

  Another plus in favor of this place is a calm ocean. This is one of the few places in Bali where you can swim and swim at any time of the year. Surfers have nothing to do here. However, during low tide, the water goes far away, leaving behind mountains of algae. Therefore, when choosing this place to relax, take into account the time of the tides so that the tides fall at night and the tides for the day.

• Jimbaran. Jimbaran is located near Kuta, on the opposite side of the airport, and has gained its fame due to the large number of fresh seafood restaurants located along the beach.   In addition to excellent restaurants, Jimbaran has a very nice sandy beach, one of the best in Bali. The peculiarity of the beach is that it seems to be located in a small bay formed by the southern tip of the island. And as a result, clear water and the absence of high waves. This makes Jimbaran a good and safe place to relax with children. And a chain of restaurants on the beach, from which a stunning view of the sunset opens in the evening, completes the idyllic picture of the resort.

  The resort focuses on high-income holidaymakers, but even if you can't afford to stay at the Jimbaran Hotel, you should definitely spend one evening at one of the local restaurants, catching the sunset. Prices in restaurants do not bite so much. The main thing is to be able to bargain.

• Denpasar. Denpasar is the capital of Bali. The former name of the city is Badung. This is a fairly large and lively city, located about 8 kilometers from the coast.

  It's not worth thinking about a beach holiday here. There are few purely popular tourist attractions and attractions here, but there are quite a lot of temples and museums that are worth a visit. The city is a great place for shopping, and a wide selection of shops will satisfy even the most demanding customers.

  The peculiarity of the city is its multi-ethnic character, and therefore it is a great place to visit restaurants specializing in various regional and ethnic Indonesian cuisine.

  The main attraction of the city is the Pasar Badung market, which is the largest and busiest on the island. The market is open daily, from the earliest morning until late at night, and must be visited if you are brought to the city.

  The cost of living in the city is very low, and therefore the most budget traveler can afford to stay a day or two in the city. But perhaps the best choice would be to stay in one of the other cities of south Bali, and visit Denpasar by raid or with an excursion.

• Nusa Dua. Nusa Dua means two islands in translation. In the past, there were mangrove swamps on this place, and today along the most luxurious and clean beaches there are the most luxurious hotels on the island.

  The peculiarity of this place is its isolation from the inhabitants of the island and privacy, silence, high level of security and high cost of hotels. As a result, no entertainment and isolation from the real culture of the island. Living here you will not be able to feel the spirit of real Bali and get acquainted with the natural hospitality of its inhabitants. Many people compare this place to a nursing home, so if you are young and not rich, then you have nothing to do here.

Central Bali

The central part is mainly a mountainous area with active volcanoes and volcanic lakes, temples; settlements known for their crafts and works of art. There are quite a lot of interesting natural and man-made attractions here: mountain lake Bedugul and the Ulun Danu Bratan temple next to it; fruit plantations and rice terraces; monkey forest in Ubud; Mas woodcarvers village; Celuk village famous for its jewelry, mainly made of silver and others.

Tourists from Russia are usually offered one or two overnight stays in the cultural center of Bali Ubud, and it's worth it.

• Ubud. Ubud is the cultural center of Bali. It is the center of decorative and applied arts of the island. A significant part of the city consists of workshops and galleries of artists, masters of wood and stone carving.

  You will not find large shopping centers, noisy bars and entertainment here. There is no beach here. Do not be surprised if you find yourself in a hotel room without a TV, because this is a place where you need to relax from the benefits of civilization, deeply immersed in yourself. Of course, you will find a cozy restaurant on the street where you can enjoy local dishes in peace, but you are unlikely to find a noisy bar with roaring music and a crowd of drunk young people.
