What to Expect and Is It Worth Visiting
This small museum tells about the history of the city and the district, and, in our opinion, is a must-visit. The collection includes more than thirty thousand exhibits on the following topics: archeology, collection of fabrics, porcelain, numismatics, old printed books, products of Arzamas Masters, painting, graphics. Of course, not all the exhibits are exposed for review, but the four sections of the museum on two floors quite fully tell about the life of the city from the time of its formation to the modern period, as well as about the features of Arzamas, including the famous "Arzamas goose". Some of the exhibits have detailed signatures, and some are equipped with QR codes, reading which with a smartphone you can get more detailed information. But to visit the museum was really interesting and informative, we recommend buying a tour guide, which is offered for an additional fee at the checkout. Without a tour, it will take 15-20 minutes to inspect the museum.
In addition to the permanent exhibition, there are master classes on making a twisted doll, a goose in the origami technique, greeting cards, felt boots, a scarf in the technique of "printed fabric", paintings in the technique of wool watercolor. Also, Museum staff conduct excursions around the city and in the village of Diveevo. In addition to the main collections of the museum, a separate building in another part of the city at 53A Karl Marx Street houses an exhibition center where exhibitions of local artists, photographers and craftsmen are held. The exhibition center is visited separately from the main exposition.
