General information

Zaozerne (Zaozerne) - a village on the western coast of Crimea on the Black Sea coast, located 6 kilometers from Yevpatoria and 80 kilometers from Simferopol and the airport (Zaozernoye on the map of Crimea). Previously called-Seagull. The village is small, its population is just over four thousand people, and is often perceived by tourists simply as a suburb of Yevpatoria. It has a moderately developed tourist infrastructure and popularity among tourists as a place for a relaxing beach holiday.

Rest in Zaozernoye

Zaozernoye is a popular resort for beach holidays. It is distinguished by good long sandy beaches, moderately developed infrastructure and a very quiet and peaceful environment. There are no attractions and very little entertainment, there is no walking area and the embankment, there is nothing to do in the evenings, but there are many sanatoriums and boarding houses, including children's ones. There are no industries in the village, the population is small, and therefore it is believed that the water here is clean, and in general the ecological situation is satisfactory.

For youth or active recreation, the village is not at all suitable. But families with young children, the elderly, and those who are looking for peace, tranquility, and rest like "Hotel-Beach and nothing else", it will be comfortable here. Also, tourists and locals from Yevpatoria come to the beaches of Zaozernoye to relax for a day, since the sandy beach here is long and sparsely populated.

Beaches Of Zaozernoye

The main advantage of Zaozernoye is its sandy beaches. They are very long (more than five kilometers), the sand is large, yellow. Beach activities here are minimal and appear only in the highest season. On public beaches there are cafes, rental of sun loungers and umbrellas, but everything is also at a minimum.

The depth here is small, great for relaxing with young children. But on beaches that do not belong to sanatoriums, there are no lifeguards on duty, so you still need to look after the children carefully.

Unfortunately, some of the beaches, especially on the outskirts, are not cleaned by utilities, so after bad weather and storms, garbage and algae are thrown ashore, which rot and emit unpleasant odors until the water and nature itself again take them to the sea.

There is another disadvantage of the beaches - that they can not be called beautiful. The terrain here is steppe, so there is little greenery. The coastal strip is divided into sections between medical and children's sanatoriums, access to which is limited by law, and public beaches. And although you can safely walk along the shore for many kilometers, these areas are separated by rusty fences, which do not add picturesqueness to the views, the sediment remains. Another unpleasant thing is that the beaches themselves are separated from the road by rickety concrete fences or rusty nets. It is not clear why this is done.

Access to the shore from some areas of the village is also difficult. The length of the coastline here is more than five kilometers, but due to the presence of fences and territories of sanatoriums from the main street (friendship alley) to the beach you will have to walk 500 meters, besides, there are not everywhere passages to the sea, and you still need to get to them from your hotel. The roads on the way to the beach are dusty and "killed", so such walks to the beach will suit only the most unassuming vacationers.

Infrastructure in Zaozernoye

Infrastructure in Zaozernoye for tourists is available: there are many hotels and sanatoriums, there are cafes, offices for selling excursions on the Main Street Alley of friendship. But despite this, it seems that the village is stuck in the 80s of the last century, back in the USSR: the situation here is dull and will not suit every active tourist; there is practically no entertainment, there is no sense of celebration; there is no pedestrian tourist zone, as there is no full-fledged embankment. The only amusement park with simple attractions for children is on friendship Alley, and it does not work every season. To have fun and feel the atmosphere of fun, you will have to go to Yevpatoria, which, however, will not be difficult to do on the city bus number 8 for 30 minutes and 22 rubles.

There are no large shops and chain supermarkets in Zaozernoye, only small grocery stores, liquor stores, shops, pharmacies. Opposite the sanatorium "Chaika" in the area of the village council there is a collective farm market. During the holiday season, along the paths to the beach, stalls sell fruit, ice cream, drinks and cheap souvenirs. For more or less serious purchases, you will also have to go to Yevpatoria.

Hotels and accommodation in Zaozernoye, where to stay

The first line along the beach in Zaozernoye is occupied by children's sanatoriums, which are problematic for independent tourists, you can only come by ticket. Therefore, only the second line remains, further beyond the street is friendship Alley. It offers hotels and accommodation in the private sector. When choosing, keep in mind that due to the development and fences of sanatoriums, it is not always possible to freely go to the beach, you will have to go around. Convenient passages to the beach pass along Latyshev Avenue and St. October.

Previously, camping "Dolphin" worked for road travelers in Zaozernoye, but for several years it has been repurposed into an ordinary sanatorium, so travelers by car can find a place for a tent only on the outskirts of the village.

Weather and tourist seasons in Zaozernoye

The season in Zaozernoye begins in May and lasts until September. However, in May and the first half of June there are often rains and cold, the water is still too cold for swimming. The really high beach season starts at the end of June and lasts until August inclusive. In September, with the beginning of the school year, Yevpatoria and Zaozernoye are rather sharply emptied, but good weather and warm sea remain throughout September, so during this period you can also have a great rest, and at the same time save on accommodation due to falling prices.

How to get to Zaozernoye

All routes to Zaozernoye lead through Evpatoria, there are no direct ways to get here from other cities of the Crimea or from the airport by public transport.

From Simferopol airport to Zaozernoye you can get directly by taxi from 2000 rubles, or order a ready-made tourist transfer on the site intui.travel

If the trip from the airport by taxi does not fit into your budget, you can take buses or trains with transfers. To Evpatoria from the airport there are direct buses or you can get there with a transfer by train (see How to get to Yevpatoria). Upon arrival in Yevpatoria at the bus station or railway station, you will have to change to the local suburban bus number 8 (119) which runs every 15-20 minutes from 06:30 to 22:00, the fare is 22 rubles. This bus goes through the whole city along Internatsionalnaya Street past the collective farm market and The Fresh Supermarket, the bus station, the railway station. In Zaozernoye, the route passes through the entire village along friendship Alley, making many stops at stops marked along the way. In high season and on weekends, buses are often crowded and do not even stop at stops.

In the high season, bicycles are offered for rent, but we did not find stationary rentals, only temporary points on the street in the area of the center and the beach.

Attractions in Zaozernoye

There are no attractions in Zaozernoye with the exception of only two interesting places, which, however, will not be interesting to every tourist.

But what you can see in Zaozernoye yourself:

• Settlement "Chaika"

  

  It is the ruins of a Greco-Scythian settlement founded around the middle of the 4th century BC by Chersonesos. In the middle of the 2nd century. captured by the Scythians and existed until the middle of the first century AD. It was discovered in 1959, and since then there have been archaeological excavations. Many of the artifacts found here are on display at Local History Museum of Yevpatoria.

  The place got its name because of the nearby sanatorium "Chaika", for the construction of which sand was mined from the site of the settlement in the last century. What it was actually called, it was not possible to establish, since no mention in the documents and on the maps of the settlement has not yet been found.

  Today, the settlement is a complex of ruins, which for most tourists are perceived simply as a pile of geometrically arranged stones. Indeed, for the most part there is nothing to see here: there are no buildings and artifacts here, there are only outlines of buildings made of stones among bushes and trees. Unfortunately, the ruins are not protected in any way in the period between excavations, and are gradually destroyed by tourists and locals. Read more nickname "Chaika" here.

• Space communications center and antenna ADU-1000

  

  Built in Soviet times, the Pluto center and antenna complex provided deep space exploration programs until the late 1970s. The structure for those times is unique and advanced, but in 1978 it was replaced by the RT-70 radio telescope built nearby in the village of Molochnoye. Currently unused and being gradually dismantled, so hurry up to see what's left. It will be interesting for those who are interested in technology and communication.
