General information
Evpatoria - a city on the western shore of the Black Sea, 65 kilometers from Simferopol (Evpatoria on the map of Crimea. Yevpatoria is a fairly large city by local standards, its population is 106,00 people, and this is almost twice as much as in Yalta. It is the fourth most populous city of the peninsula.
Evpatoria has ancient Greek roots dating back to before our era. The first ancient Greek settlement appeared on the site of the modern city in the early 5th century BC, and was called Kerkinitida. It was an independent city-state. However, in the middle of the 2nd century BC, it was captured by the Scythians from Naples, located on the site of the current Simferopol, and almost completely destroyed the city. The settlement was restored only a few centuries later by the Crimean Khanate and received a new name-Gozlev. In the 18th century, the city passed to the Russian Empire and in 1784 was renamed Evpatoria, which in Greek means "noble".
Holidays in Yevpatoria
Today Evpatoria without exaggeration is one of the most popular resorts of Crimea. Every year the city is visited by almost a million tourists, the main flow falls on the summer months. Evpatoria attracts beach lovers who prefer sandy beaches. Unlike the southern coast of Crimea, where almost all beaches are pebbly, on the beaches of Yevpatoria, on the contrary, there are no stones, but only fine yellow sand and a small depth, which is just ideal for relaxing with children.
But not only the sandy beaches are attractive resort for families and children: such a lot of entertainment for children, as in Evpatoria, can not be found anywhere else in the Crimea. In the resort area near the embankment you can find many green parks and amusement parks, a walking area along the embankment, a water park, an oceanarium, a dolphinarium, an arboretum and much more. Children's Entertainment is simply at every turn here, and parents only need to worry about having enough money left in their wallet. In general, infrastructure and entertainment make Yevpatoria the best children's resort in Crimea.
Enough entertainment here for adults. There are restaurants, bars, clubs, discos, and an excellent pedestrian zone along the Gorky embankment. In the Old Town you can see many historical sights, visit museums. Of course, the beach offers a full range of traditional water activities.
Yevpatoria is also a popular medical Resort, and all thanks to the healing mud, salt and mineral waters that are mined in the vicinity of the city. Therefore, there are a lot of sanatoriums, including children's. People from all over Russia come here for treatment and Prevention.
Shopping in Yevpatoria is not very well developed. There seems to be everything you need: just a huge number of small shops, markets, tourist shops at every turn. But on the other hand, there are no large modern shopping centers where you can walk for hours and have fun.
There are, of course, in the rest in Evpatoria and some disadvantages. In the high season, there are so many vacationers here that even everyone does not have enough space on the City Beach. It is also a relatively expensive resort compared to other places in the Crimea. Well, it is impossible not to mention the problems with algae on the beaches, especially at the beginning or end of the tourist season. After a storm or strong waves, algae is thrown onto the shores, and if they are not removed in a timely manner, they begin to rot and smell very bad, it is very unpleasant to go into the water. Unfortunately, this very often happens at the beginning or at the end of the season, when there are not very many vacationers, and the administration of the beaches is not in a hurry to clean up everything. And outside the city, on unattended beaches, mountains of stinking seaweed can lie for weeks until they rot and wash back into the sea.
Weather and tourist seasons in Yevpatoria
The season in Yevpatoria begins in May and lasts until September. However, at the beginning of the season, in May and the first half of June, there is often rain and cold, the water is still too cold for swimming. The real bathing season begins at the end of June and lasts until August inclusive. In September, with the beginning of the school year, Yevpatoria empties quite sharply, but good weather and warm sea remain throughout September.

Useful tips about Evpatoria
- City districts. Yevpatoria is a big city, but when choosing a place for a hotel/accommodation, try to settle as close as possible to the embankment and double-check the addresses of the proposed housing yourself on the map, otherwise you may find yourself in the city center, but very far from the beach.
- Beaches. In Yevpatoria, quite a few beaches are occupied by sanatoriums and access to them is limited. When choosing a place to stay, pay attention to this, otherwise if you make an unsuccessful choice, you will have to go very far to the beaches.
- Therapeutic Moynak Lake. Until now, some guidebooks and websites report that Moynak Lake in the east of the city contains healing mud. But in fact, the mud of the lake lost its healing properties in the early 90s due to the discharge of fresh water into it. See more about the therapeutic mud of the Crimea.
