What to Expect and Is It Worth Visiting
Bolgatura (Bolgatur) it's really hard to call a mountain, rather it's just a hill. Ancient sources speak of a settlement that existed on the mountain, and in the 6th century a Byzantine fortress was erected here, the remains of which can be seen today. The Bolgatur tract today consists of the remains of masonry, in the outlines of which you can see the base of a round tower, and nothing more.
The mountain also has a later and sad history: During the Russian-Turkish war of 1768-1774, the Turkish landing force staged a mass execution site on the mountain. Then more than 1,500 local residents were thrown off the slopes of Bolgatura.
Today, this place is a little-known and rarely visited tourist attraction, perhaps primarily because it is not equipped with paths for easy climbing, and it will not be easy to find the ruins of the fortress at all. To climb up, you will have to climb a steep slope with overgrown trails, and the beginning of the climb is difficult to find, since it is located between residential buildings and is almost not marked in any way. Nevertheless, the place is worth a visit, if only because it offers a beautiful view of Gurzuf from above.
