Charax Palace is one of the best preserved architectural landmarks in the village of Gaspra in Greater Yalta. Externally, the palace looks very modest and more like a three-story country house or villa surrounded by a large Harak Park. The palace complex also includes several objects – the Manager's House, the ruins of the Charax fortress and the ancient necropolis, the ruins of the ancient thermal baths and the I-Todor lighthouse, Church of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Nina, antique gazebo and fountain.
This palace-villa was built at the beginning of the XX century for Prince Mikhail Nikolaevich Romanov, one of the sons of Emperor Nicholas I, and named after the Roman fortress Charax, which existed on this site in the I-III century, the remains of which can be seen in the park. Crimean architect N.P. Krasnov and Mikhail Nikolaevich's son, Prince Georgy Mikhailovich, who inherited the estate after his father's death, took part in the development of the villa project.
From 1922 to the present, the entire palace complex was occupied by sanatorium facilities, and today it is the territory of the operating Dnipro sanatorium.
Unfortunately, not everything here has been preserved in its original form, most of the interiors have been lost. During the visit, it is not possible to go everywhere and look inside, for example, the ruins of the thermal baths and the lighthouse can be viewed only with an excursion offered to the clients of the sanatorium (for a fee). It is impossible to enter the palace itself, since one of the residential buildings of the sanatorium is located in the building, you will have to see it only from the outside. The manager's house is abandoned, and barely noticeable brickwork and a large restored panel on the wall of one of the buildings remained from the necropolis and the ruins of the fortress.
In general, in order to preserve and maintain the historical value of this place, reconstruction and restoration works of the preserved objects are carried out. A place named thanks to this deserves your attention. A pleasant walk through the shady park, observation decks on the sea, a touch of history, and all this is still free.
In 2022, restoration work was carried out, the passage to the house was fenced. Completion of the works is planned by the summer of 2023.

🚶 How to get there
Charax Palace and park are located in the center of Gaspra, Alupkinskoe highway, 13 K. 1 (Charax Palace and Gaspra Park on the map). The entrance to the park is through the checkpoint of the Dnipro sanatorium from the side of the Alupka highway, the stops "Pearl" and "Dnipro Sanatorium". From any place in the village you can walk, and from Yalta you can take buses No. 102, 132; by intercity bus Simferopol-Simeiz. If you come here in your car, you will not be able to park it near the entrance, you will have to leave the car a little away from the checkpoint or at the store along the road. There is a paid parking for 200 rubles at the entrance through the checkpoint at the stop "Pearl".
