Monument to Vita Korobkov, Feodosia
Monument to Vita Korobkov

There are many monuments in Feodosia, but one of them occupies a special place – this is a monument to the pioneer Vita Korobkov. It is located on Sycamore Alley next to Jubilee Park, next to monuments to such figures and heroes as Ivan Poddubny, Amet Khan Sultan, Ivan Nazukin and others. Most tourists pass by it without even paying attention. But if you know the history of the feat that this fifteen-year-old boy deserved to be immortalized in memory, then you will look at him with a completely different look.

Vitya Korobkov was born in 1929 in Feodosia. He studied well at school No. 4 and twice received a ticket to the Artek camp for excellent academic performance. Vitya's father worked in a printing house, and during the occupation of Crimea by the Germans, he participated in an underground city organization. Vitya helped his father, through him communication was maintained between the partisan groups in the forest. The boy collected information about the enemies, helped to print and distribute leaflets. Later he became a scout for a partisan brigade.

On February 16, 1944, Vitya and his father were arrested in Feodosia. During interrogations and torture, ot did not give up his comrades, and on March 9 he was shot, then he just turned 15 years old. Before the execution, he told a friend in the cell: "When you get out, find your mother, tell her that I died for the Motherland." Posthumously he received the medal "For Courage".

In 1977, a museum dedicated to Vita was opened at school No. 4, where he studied, and the school itself was named after him. A children's camp in Bolshaya Yalta and a passenger ship of the Raduga type are also named after him. As for the monument, the Komsomol members began collecting money for its construction in 1957. The youth of Feodosia, Crimea and the whole of Ukraine actively helped. Sculptors V. Podolsky and architect V. Kupriyanov worked on the monument, and in June 1959 it was opened at a citywide rally.

The monument is made of bronze, the pedestal is made of polished dark gray granite. Traditional compositional and plastic techniques for the 1950s were used. All the details have been carefully worked out, down to the smallest folds of clothing. The monument depicts a pioneer-partisan who sneaks along the wall with a leaflet in his hands. The inscription is carved on the pedestal: "To the glorious pioneer-partisan Vita Korobkov, who died in the fight against the fascist invaders on March 9, 1944. From the pioneers of Ukraine."
