Attractions in Dzhankoy - what to see

All interesting places can be viewed directly in Dzhankoy itself within a few hours, and even without using transport, but simply bypassing them on foot. Be sure to visit a small local museum of local lore, walk along the main street of the Crimea, see the temple and the mosque. There are several other interesting places in the vicinity of Dzhankoy, but you will have to get to them yourself by private or rented car, since excursions to attractions are not available for sale here.

Dzhankoy Museum of Local Lore

A very small museum of local lore in Dzhankoy, which, despite the deplorable state of the building, has an interesting collection of exhibits telling about the historical stages of the development of this provincial town.

In the halls of the museum there are household items, photographs, a special pride is the reconstruction of the interior of a peasant house with utensils and things. The exposition has more than 800 authentic items.

Employees of the museum conduct informative tours of the museum, and completely free of charge. For individual visitors, they can conduct a tour of both the museum and the city for a nominal fee.

Dzhankoy City Park

An ordinary park in a small town for locals is unlikely to surprise seasoned tourists with anything. In summer, the most popular place to relax and walk. Only simple children's attractions are presented. The territory is equipped with benches, there is a cafe, fast food and drinks are sold. Monuments to Soviet soldiers and internationalist soldiers have been erected.

In general, nothing special is remarkable, except for the free WiFi zone, however, you will need a SIM card to connect. The park is very neglected, the order is maintained by the efforts of the caretakers, but it is noticeable that additional funding and improvements are needed.

Cathedral of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos or Pokrovsky Cathedral

The Cathedral of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary or the Intercession Cathedral is located in the immediate vicinity of the City Park. This is the largest and most significant urban Christian church, one of its business cards. The beautiful blue-and-white building attracts with its grandeur and simplicity.

It was built on the site of a church built in 1909 that was destroyed during the Soviet period. By the forces of the rector, Father Vladimir Legach, the construction was started in 1990 and almost completed by 1998, but a tragedy happened. For reasons still unexplained, the central dome was destroyed as a result of the explosion. And in 2001, as a result of a car accident, Father Vladimir himself died. By the way, he was buried here, on the territory of the temple, on the east side of the building. All the work on the restoration and completion of the temple continued under the new rector, Archpriest John Gladkovsky, and was completed only in 2005. This is such a difficult fate for the temple.

Krymskaya street

Krymskaya Street is the very first street of Dzhankoy. With the construction of the railway, huts and shops began to appear along the street, and then a future town began to form around the highway.

Today, as in the past, Krymskaya Street runs through the city center along the railway, past the City Park, the Museum of Local Lore. It has two railway stations and a bus station, markets, shops, cafes. Although it is considered the main street of the city, it is difficult to call it a full-fledged tourist street.

Dzhankoy Jami Mosque

The Jami Mosque in Dzhankoy is the main and only city mosque. A small and neat white building with a low minaret has no historical significance, but it is very important for local Muslims.

Sulphurous thermal spring

This unsettled, one might say, wild source of hot natural water is located outside the city in the village of Dorozhnoye right in the middle of the field (thermal spring on the map). It consists of a concrete open-air swimming pool, into which hot water flows from a deep well. Radon, hydrogen sulfide, many trace elements and salts are present in the water.

The source is well-known among the locals, so there are always people here. Unfortunately, with a large crowd of people wishing to improve their health, sometimes you have to wait, because the pool is small. There are no changing rooms, benches and toilets. Take baths with caution, because there is no information about the properties and usefulness of water. You can swim for free.

Kalinovsky Landscape Park

Kalinovsky Regional Landscape Park is located 30 kilometers from the center of Dzhankoy on a peninsula jutting out into the Siwash Bay. This park-reserve was created to preserve samples of biodiversity of the steppe regions of Crimea in the Sivashsky district.

His visit is free, and in fact there are even no restrictions on his visit, including by car. You will not see anything particularly interesting here, only steppe landscapes, the coastal strip and the Sivash Bay, but if there is nothing to do at all, you can go for a picnic during the day.

Czech Church of the Heart of Jesus Christ

The Czech Church is a monumental building of European architecture in the village of Alexandrovka, 45 kilometers from the center of Dzhankoy. It is unusual to see such a building in a small village. And the fact that the temple was built back in 1911 and was once the richest and most beautiful Catholic church in the Crimea raises a lot of questions. The temple has been inactive for many years and is gradually being destroyed. There was nothing left of his former appearance. Nevertheless, today it can still be seen. It is available for inspection both outside and inside, but inspection from the inside is dangerous, collapses are possible. It's worth stopping here only if you drive by.

Shatilov's Estate

One of the architectural attractions of the surroundings of Dzhankoy is the estate of the Russian breeder Joseph Nikolaevich Shatilov (1824-1890). The mansion was built in 1882, and a wonderful garden was laid out around it. This is a pleasant place for walking and relaxing in the fresh air, there is an improvised gazebo.

Now the manor building is empty and looks abandoned. There are no windows, doors, bare brick walls inside. Judging by the condition of the adjacent territory, it is noticeable that the estate is being looked after. According to some reports, the house was sold to a private individual who is trying to restore it.

It's worth visiting this place only if you drive by. You shouldn't come here on purpose.
