Heart Lake or Quarry Lake is not a natural landmark, as one might think. It has an artificial origin, since it was formed in the inactive Kadykovsky quarry, where limestone was mined in the last century, and now it is filled with fresh groundwater of a turquoise hue. Moreover, the lake is located at the very bottom of this deep quarry, as a result of which the water surface here is about 14 meters lower than the ocean level.
The lake got its name for a reason, because from a certain point the lake really resembles a heart in shape. The best vantage point is located on the western side of the lake (observation point on the map), for which you will have to go down a little from the upper edge of the quarry down the path. In addition to the beautiful views, you can have a picnic here, and the route to this attraction passes through beautiful natural places.
The walking road from Balaclava to here is narrow, so you need to think in advance about comfortable and athletic shoes. Due to the risk of rock collapse and low water temperature, swimming in the pond is prohibited. Apart from exploring the lake and photo shoots, there are no other entertainments here.
