This small private museum is dedicated to the history of Balaclava during the First Defense of Sevastopol in 1854-1855. Despite its modest size, there are a lot of exhibits here, including military uniforms of that time, household items of soldiers, weapons, awards. All the exhibits are original, found during archaeological excavations in the vicinity, as well as raised from the bottom of the sea. An interesting excursion is conducted during the visit. The museum has a gift shop.

The idea of the museum originated in 2005 from a local resident Sergei Rostislavovich Gontar, who in those years became interested in the military history of the Crimea. Together with the International Military Historical Association, he conducted more than 10 military historical reconstructions, and in 2015 it was finally decided to open a living history museum dedicated to the unknown pages of the Crimean (Eastern) War of 1853-1856.

Today the museum works not only within the walls of the building, but also is engaged in the restoration of abandoned places associated with the history of the First Defense of Sevastopol. Thus, through the efforts of the author of the museum, the world's only mass grave of Russian, English and Scottish soldiers who fell on the field of the Inkerman battle on November 5, 1854 was restored.
