Keiwa falls or Keiwu – this is one of the most easily accessible on foot and spectacular waterfalls in the Krasnaya Polyana area, in terms of accessibility it is second only to waterfall "High" on the health trail. Located at an altitude of about 1050-1100 meters above sea level and about 500 meters above the level resorts of Krasnaya Polyana. It is reached by a relatively simple hiking trail from the village of Krasnaya Polyana, but in good weather you can easily drive any car along a dirt road to the ticket office at the entrance, from where the waterfall is only 20-30 minutes on foot. Learn more about how to get there and the route description below.
Keiva is located in Sochi National Park, and therefore the entrance to it is paid-200 rubles per person, children under 10 years old-free of charge. This is a considerable price, and it immediately doubled in 2021 from 100 rubles. Fortunately, in the low season of hiking in winter, spring and autumn, you can go to it for free, since there is no one at the ticket offices. What is still good, cashiers are mostly sympathetic to the fact that the price is too high, and let children pass without presenting a birth certificate, i.e. you can spend a child over 10 years old for free. Well, if you basically do not want to pay for the entrance, then you can generally get to it bypassing the ticket office along the path from the village of Krasnaya Polyana, as described below.
In general, cave Falls is a whole complex of several waterfalls and rapids. The largest of them is more than 10 meters high. On the rock next to it there is a plaque in honor of one of its pioneers, an instructor at the local campsite cave Elmar Janowicz. The big waterfall is spectacular and beautiful, and although it is inferior in scale and popularity to the more famous and highest in Sochi waterfall Polikarya, in our opinion (the authors of the site) this one is even more picturesque. Downstream of the main creek there are several other small water slides and waterfalls. Well, the most inquisitive can go to another stream in a five-minute walk from the big waterfall (it flows into the main stream on the right and a little downstream), and there you can see several more waterfalls and water slides.
Whichever way of visiting you choose, - easy by car to the ticket offices or completely on foot, - we advise you to wear sports or trekking shoes, since you will have to go on stones and trails. A completely walking route does not present great difficulties and is easily overcome in both directions in half a day, but you need to take communications equipment, a navigator (applications with offline maps on a smartphone will do), trekking poles, drinking water and something to eat.
The trail does not end at the Keiva waterfall, and you can climb further to the observation deck overlooking the top of the Black Pyramid and even go to Khmelevsky Lakes, but this is another story with more detailed route preparation and overnight along the way.
🕐 Working hours: the waterfall is accessible around the clock, it is safe to visit during daylight hours. The best season is spring and summer, because the rest of the year it may not be very full.
💵 Entrance fee / tickets price: you will have to pay 200 rubles/person for admission at The Ticket Office of the Sochi National Park (cave falls ticket office on the map), children under 10 years-free of charge. In low season, the ticket office may not work, you can go for free. It is also possible to walk free of charge along the trail from the village of Krasnaya Polyana.
🚶 How to get there: Keiva waterfall is located about 5 kilometers along the route from the center of Krasnaya Polyana village, 4.5 kilometers from the center of Krasnaya Polyana Resort and 8 kilometers from Rosa Khutor (cave falls on the map. It is located at an altitude of about 1050-1100 meters above sea level and about 500 meters above the level of the resorts of Krasnaya Polyana. From any of the resorts of Krasnaya Polyana it can be visited during the day on foot or by car (in good weather); go along the free trail or through the ticket office.
Whichever way you choose, getting to Keivu without the help of a guide who knows the way or without a navigator is unrealistic, there are no signs anywhere. Therefore, for an independent hike, we highly recommend installing applications of "people's" offline maps Organic Maps or OSM, in which most of the trails and dirt roads to cave are marked, and download points from our tourist map of Krasnaya Polyana. And now more about each method:
By car to Keivu
A tolerable dirt road leads to the ticket office at the entrance to the official tourist route of the Sochi National Park to this waterfall. On it, in good weather, you can easily get even on the "puzoterka", and in bad weather and in winter only on an SUV. Near the ticket offices there is a place for free parking. This primer begins at the junction of defenders of the Caucasus Street in Berezovaya Street between the village of Krasnaya Polyana and Estosadok. To find it, we strongly recommend using the Navigator or the help of local residents, we marked its beginning on the map (start of the primer on the map). This will be followed by an ascent along a dirt serpentine road to the ticket offices. After paying for the entrance to the waterfall will have to go 300 meters and overcome the rise of 100 meters, which takes 20-30 minutes.
Walking distance to Keivu
On foot, Keivu can be reached by the same route as by car, and this is the easiest option, since you have to go along a dirt road for cars, and not Trails. From the center of the resort "Krasnaya Polyana" or from the center of the village in this case, you will have to trample about 6 kilometers and overcome more than 500 meters in height, which will take 2-3 hours for trained tourists.
But not everyone likes to go along the primer for cars, so from the side of the Krasnaya Polyana resort you can walk along a more interesting hiking trail with further access to the mentioned primer and then to the ticket office. This trail starts from Berezovaya Street (start of the trail on the map). It is very steep in places, but generally safe.
The most "interesting" walking route starts from the village of Krasnaya Polyana, and is interesting from the fact that you get to the waterfall for free bypassing the ticket office. It passes through the sanatorium of the Ministry of Defense from the area of the village, called "Sorokapyatki". To get to it, you need to first get to the territory of the sanatorium, which can be done along one of the many trails and walking paths, or even on the asphalt through the main entrance. You can shorten the Walking part of the way, if you take the bus number 163 in the area of "Sorokapyatki" to the stop "residential buildings" or 105, 535 to the stop" Peak Hotel", and then go towards the sanatorium along the road and path past the house on the street. defenders of the Caucasus, 132.you can get to this sanatorium by car, though you will have to negotiate with the security, so that the car is allowed to the territory for parking, which has now become almost impossible. The entry point to the trail to the waterfall is not marked here, you will have to search for it with the help of local staff or using the Navigator: it is located next to abandoned buildings on the border of the sanatorium, leads directly through a hole in the fence (start of the trail on the map). Further from here you can safely go to the waterfall, the trail is clearly distinguishable.
