Rest in the resort of Janhot - how to get there, what to see, where to stay

Article and Section Navigation

General information, recreation, beaches

Djanhot (Djanhot) – a tiny farm on the Black Sea coast, belongs to the resort Big Gelendzhik and is located just 20 kilometers from the city center (Janhot on the map). Most tourists know it as a remote Gelendzhik beach with clean water, a spacious beach, beautiful views and good ecology. You can come here for a rest during the day or for a weekend from Gelendzhik. But it is also an independent beach resort and a good place for a quiet relaxing holiday in an almost rustic atmosphere. And Janhota beach is also popular as a landing place for groups of tourists during day trips on motor ships from Gelendzhik and other major resorts.

Rest in Dzhankhot
Rest in Janhot

Advantages of the resort

  • Beautiful nature, ecologically clean place.
  • A quiet rustic setting for those who prefer such a vacation.
  • Beautiful clean pebble beach.
  • There is something like an embankment (rather an area near the beach).

Disadvantages of the resort

  • High prices compared to other resorts in Gelendzhik.
  • There is no place for free parking near the beach.
  • Poorly developed infrastructure, little entertainment and attractions.
  • The beach can be crowded with vacationers due to the arrival of tourist groups on motor ships.

In Dzhankhot there are a couple dozen options for tourist accommodation (hotels, holiday homes), children's camps. The urban infrastructure is very poorly developed, and there is nothing but a couple of shops and a market with tourist goods. You will have to go to Divnomorskoe or Gelendzhik for shopping, services, and medical care, where everything is available. There is no ATM, you can pay with a plastic card in rare places, so stock up on cash before traveling here.

The tourist infrastructure here is a little better than the urban one. Near the beach there is a kind of embankment with cafes, fast food sales, draft drinks and places to relax. Some cafes work late as bars and discos, although, of course, you should not expect a modern repertoire of music. You can eat inexpensively in the canteens on the street next to the beach, where they offer set meals from 250 rubles. There is a point of sale for group excursions, and in the tourist market you can buy goods for recreation: swimming goggles, swimming shoes, inflatable circles, sun beds, etc. Also informally offer individual excursions, boat trips, sea fishing. There are water attractions on the beach, but there are few of them and they are not always available.

The beach in Janhota is completely pebbly. The pebbles are medium and large, and there may be large slippery stones at the bottom. For comfortable rest and bathing, we highly recommend using special bathing shoes (aquashouses), and as a sunbed, not a beach towel, but something thicker, for example, a tourist or a yoga mat. You can use the rental of sun loungers, they are asked for 250 rubles / day. On the shore there are free changing cabins, a paid toilet for 20 rubles. There are no showers.

The depth here is very large, already five meters from the shore up to the shoulders. So a vacation with children here will not be very comfortable and safe. But the water is very clear. It is believed that the sea here is generally the cleanest on the entire coast of Greater Gelendzhik, although the same can be said about the neighboring Praskoveyevka.

Just do not be mistaken and assume that in Dzhankhot you will be provided with a deserted pebble beach. Rather the opposite. During the peak season in June and August, and especially on weekends, residents and tourists from Gelendzhik tend to escape here, and the beach is crowded with one-day vacationers. And constantly during the day, a "landing party" of tourists from motor ships lands through the pier. And although it cannot be said that they take up a lot of space on the shore, it is uncomfortable that they constantly move along the beach. After all, these groups are brought here for one or two hours several times a day.

If you will be cramped on the central beach and want to retire, then you can walk along the shore in either direction. It will be especially interesting to walk towards Praskoveevka (to the left of the beach): there is a wild and nudist beach. However, wild beaches are not very suitable for swimming: they are very rocky, there are large boulders at the bottom under the water, garbage comes across on the shore.

Hotels and accommodation in Janhot, where to stay

There are not very many accommodation options in Dzhankhot, prices are high compared to the large resorts of Greater Gelendzhik. In addition, there is a shortage of housing in high season, it is better to book it in advance.

We recommend searching and booking accommodation in Janhota in advance through these sites of world and Russian booking systems or the search form from Booking:

Weather in Janhot, tourist seasons

  • 🌞 You need to go from June to August. It's high tourist and beach season. The hottest and most popular months are July and August, during which there is an influx of tourists and an increase in prices for accommodation.

  • ⛅ You can go in May, September and October. Not the best months, but prices are lower at this time. You can swim already in the middle of May, but the sea is not very warm, and the weather is unstable, sometimes there are clouds and rains. In mid-September, the resort "falls asleep", a few tourist establishments and services stop working, but you can swim quite comfortably even before mid-October.

  • 🌨 Do not go from November to April. It's too cold and uncomfortable to rest in these months.

How to get to Janhot

It is best to get to Janhot for recreation by your own car. Moreover, the car will be useful during the holidays in order to get to Gelendzhik or Divnomorsky for shopping or entertainment, or to go to the sights in the vicinity. There is only one dead-end road leading to Dzhankhot from Gelendzhik, which continues further and ends in Praskoveyevka. There are no big problems with parking at the resort, but it will not be possible to leave the car directly near the beach, there are forbidding signs everywhere. And do not pay attention to the fact that cars with local license plates stand under the signs with impunity: what is allowed to locals is not allowed to tourists. But a couple of hundred meters from the beach along Lesnoy Avenue there is a large paid parking for 150 rubles / day. Even further away, half a kilometer away, you can safely leave the car on the side of the road or in the alleys.

If there is no car, then you can get to Dzhankhot by public transport, but you will have to go with transfers through Gelendzhik. See the detailed instructions, how and by what to get to Gelendzhik.

From Gelendzhik, from the railway station and the airport, we highly recommend getting to the place of rest by taxi. The cheapest way to order cars is through aggregator applications such as Yandex, Uber, or on tourist transfer ordering sites:

If you can't afford a taxi, then you can take local buses No. 108. They depart from the old bus station in the center of Gelendzhik at 23 Sadovaya Street (bus station on the map). In Dzhankhot, they make a stop on Chernomorskaya Street a kilometer from the beach (stop on the map). There is no taxi in the village, but in principle it will not be difficult to get to any hotel on foot.

The bus fare costs 60 rubles, the journey takes 30 minutes. Departure from Gelendzhik: 05:10, 06:30, 08:10, 09:00, 13:15, 15:00, 17:30, 19:00. In practice, the schedule is usually limited to four flights per day: two in the morning and two in the afternoon. The current schedule is published at the stops, but it is better to check it further with local residents.

There is also flight No. 646 from Novorossiysk, which can be used upon arrival at the railway station in Novorossiysk. By the way, there is no railway in Gelendzhik, the nearest one is just in Novorossiysk. The fare on this bus costs 152 rubles, an hour and a half on the way, departs three times a day according to the schedule at 11:55, 15:33 and 19:10. The schedule may change, check on the passenger transportation website kpas.ru.

Attractions and entertainment, what to see

Entertainment and attractions in Dzhankhot consider that there is no. In fact, there are only two interesting places worth visiting directly in the village itself: the House-Museum of the writer Korolenko, forests of endemic (growing only in this area) Pitsunda pine in the vicinity. Theoretically, you can still walk to the Parus rock in Praskoveyevka and walk through the nearby mountains to the observation decks. Other interesting places from Dzhankhot will have to be visited by transport on their own or with excursions.

On the embankment of the village there are distributors of excursions that offer a dozen options for trips around Gelendzhik. The variety of excursions is not as large as in Gelendzhik or Divnomorskoye itself, and they depart only several times a week. If you want more options, you can take a bus to Divnomorskoye or Gelendzhik, and buy tours there, the choice and prices are much better. Well, if you are ready for independent trips, then you can go during the day by bus, taxi or private transport to Divnomorskoye, Gelendzhik, Kabardinka or Novorossiysk. See more details:

Ideally, it is worth coming to rest in Dzhankhot by private transport, and in between beach holidays to ride around the surrounding attractions. Here are the places we recommend visiting first:

There are no tourist attractions in Janhot. Only on the beach there are modest water activities, but not all of them are available during the entire beach season, and usually appear only in the "hottest" months in July and August. Kayak and SUP surfboard rentals are available all season. You can also do excellent snorkeling here, because the transparency of the water is very high. It is better to do it on the outskirts or wild beaches, where there are rocky areas. You can spend the evening in one of the restaurants or cafes on the embankment, there is nothing else to do.

  • Korolenko House Museum

The house-Museum is located in an architectural monument built in 1901-1902. The writer created the drawings and plans for its construction himself, because he was a very versatile creative person. The museum preserves the interior and exterior, exhibits the author's personal belongings, documents and photographs. The exposition of the first floor is dedicated to the writer, and the second floor tells about everyday life and country interiors at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries. In the courtyard you can see the Lebanese cedar and dolmen planted more than a hundred years ago.

Although V.I. Korolenko is not very well known to most modern tourists, this does not make the house museum any less interesting. Therefore, even if you are not familiar with his work, we still recommend visiting this museum, especially if you stop for a vacation directly in Janhot. It is better to visit the museum with a guided tour, which is available for an additional fee when buying tickets. From the guide's story you will learn a lot of interesting facts not only about the life and work of the writer, but also about the life of that time.
