Within the Old district of Derbent, not far from the Naryn-Kala Fortress, there is a house-museum of writer, publicist and ethnographer Alexander Alexandrovich Bestuzhev-Marlinsky. The writer lived in this house during his exile from 1830 to 1834.

The museum was opened in 1988. The exhibition is dedicated to the creative activity of A. Bestuzhev-Marlinsky. The interior of the house has been preserved, a few of his personal belongings are presented.

You can walk around the museum both independently and with excursion service. The visit will be useful if the writer's work is interesting or there is nothing else to watch, otherwise we will not include it in the top ten mandatory places.

Alexander Alexandrovich Bestuzhev, also known under the pseudonym Marlinsky (October 23, 1797, St. Petersburg — June 7, 1837, Fort of the Holy Spirit, now Adler neighborhood Sochi) is a Russian Byronic writer, critic, publicist of the Romantic era and Decembrist, who came from the Bestuzhev family.

He entered the literary field in 1819 with poems and short stories published in The Son of the Fatherland and The Competitor of Enlightenment, and in 1820 he was elected a member of the St. Petersburg Society of Lovers of Russian Literature. In 1821, his "Trip to Revel" was published in a separate book, and in 1823-1825, together with K. F. Ryleev, he published the almanac "Polar Star".

This almanac — a very remarkable literary phenomenon in its time — was met with general sympathy; around the young, talented and beloved editors, almost all the leading representatives of our literature of that time joined, including Pushkin, who from Odessa and then from his Pskov village maintained a lively correspondence with Bestuzhev on literary issues and sent him his poems. In The Polar Star, Bestuzhev acted not only as a novelist (Neuhausen Castle, A Novel in Seven Letters, The Revel Tournament, The Traitor), but also as a literary critic: his reviews of old and modern fine literature and journalism attracted general attention and caused lively controversy.

Классный музей, очень понравилась атмосфера старого дома и экспозиция про творчество писателя. Рекомендую совместить с посещением крепости Нарын-Кала, они рядышком находятся.
