Description and is it worth a visit
Kapitan Keling Mosque is an architectural monument and a functioning central mosque. This is one of the most beautiful mosques in the city, in architecture a little reminiscent of the Taj Mahal in India. This magnificent building was erected in the early XIX century by Muslims-immigrants from India, and has nothing to do with any British or Portuguese captain. The term Kapitan here implies the head of the Muslim community. The mosque is accessible to tourists at any time when there are no prayers, and outside you can inspect it at any time, in the evening it is very beautifully illuminated. At the entrance to the mosque, tourists must wear capes (issued free of charge).
