Description and is it worth a visit
Fort Cornwallis was built in 1786 on the site of the first landing of the British Captain Francis Light, the founder of the British colony on the island. Originally built of wood, the fortress was rebuilt to its present appearance in 1793.
Several ancient cannons are still installed here, one of which, called "Seri Rambai", as the locals believe, has the magical power of fertility and is very popular with women of the island who want to get offspring. According to the belief, you need to rub against the gun, and what place, guess for yourself. Next to the gun, they even put a sign asking not to climb the exhibit.
There is also a small museum, which contains exhibits that tell about the history of the fort and the island of Penang. Near the fort there is a park with souvenir shops and cafes, and the embankment is also nearby. Although not Penang's most spectacular attraction, we recommend a must-visit to the fort if only because it is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
