Description and is it worth visiting

The Zoo in Kuala Lumpur (Zoo Negara) is the largest zoo in the country, so it proudly holds the title of National. It's huge, there are many animals, but the price is also very high even by Asian standards.

In total, as stated, more than 5,100 animals (over 500 species) are kept here. Besides the usual mammals and birds, you can see reptiles, amphibians, fish, and a large collection of tropical insects (considered the largest in Asia). A special highlight of the zoo is the pandas. If you haven't been to other major zoos in Asia, be sure to go here and take the children, because here you can see animals you won't see in any domestic zoo.

🕐 Opening hours

Daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM; access to the panda enclosure on weekdays until 4:30 PM, on weekends until 5:30 PM; bird show daily at 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM.

💵 Admission / ticket price

  • Adults (over 12 years old) – 93 ringgit / 23.43 USD)
  • Children (3-12 years old) – 48 ringgit / 12.09 USD)
  • Tram ride around the grounds (optional) - 13.9 and 16.9 ringgit depending on the route.

You can buy tickets on the spot, but it's better to do it online on the official website (doesn't accept Russian cards) or on Trip.com (accepts Russian cards). But be careful when buying, so you don't accidentally buy a cheap ticket for locals — foreign tourists need to choose the Non-Malaysian option.

🚶 How to get there

The zoo is located far from the center on the outskirts of the city (zoo on the map). You can get here by metro to Wangsa Maju or Sri Rampai station, and then by taxi for about 15 ringgit (3.78 USD). You can also take city buses #222 or 253.
