Description and is it worth visiting
KL Bird Park in Kuala Lumpur is the largest open aviary in the world, where birds are not kept in cramped cages but fly and walk freely over a huge area covered with a special net. Its area is more than 8 hectares, and over 3,000 birds live here. The park opened in 1991 and has since been one of the city's most popular attractions.
Besides the free-flying birds, a small part of the 'feathered' are kept in cages and enclosures, but this, unfortunately, is a necessity. On the park's territory, all conditions are created not only for the birds but also for visitors: a playground, a restaurant and cafe, souvenir shops. The entertainment program for visitors is also supplemented by various bird shows, where birds ride bicycles, perform acrobatic tricks, etc.
This place will be interesting for nature lovers and especially children, especially since nearby is the large Kuala Lumpur Botanical Garden, which has a mouse deer park, orchid garden, butterfly park, and hibiscus garden (free entry). You should set aside at least half a day to visit both parks, and if only the bird park, 2 hours will be enough. You can also combine a visit to the park with sightseeing of the capital's main attractions for a full day using this route (we've done it entirely on foot twice):
- Start your walk early in the morning at Independence Square (Merdeka Square). From Chinatown, you can walk here; from other areas, take the metro to Masjid Jamek station. Besides the square itself, you can visit the Sultan Abdul Samad Building, Jamek Mosque, Central Market, and the Textile Museum.
- Then take a taxi or walk along Jalan Parlimen to the entrance of the Botanical Garden (about 20–30 minutes).
- Take a walk through the park, check out the Orchid and Hibiscus Garden, relax by the lake, visit the Deer Park (free), and the Bird Park.
- Exit from the opposite side of the park and visit the free Royal Police Museum, then the National Mosque (Masjid Negara), and if you have strength left — the Islamic Arts Museum.
- You can end the route at Pasar Seni metro station, from where it's easy to get to any part of the city.
If you are short on time and money, you can skip this place. But most visitors, who initially thought of this place as not particularly interesting before visiting, after visiting radically change their point of view and say that this place is worth the money. In our opinion, the bird park is a good option for those who want to take a break from the city bustle and spend a few hours in nature, observing exotic birds up close.

🚶 How to get there
The park is located in the city center in the Botanical Garden (bird park on the map), but getting there by public transport is not easy; it's best to take a taxi. The nearest stations: KL Sentral transport hub (20-30 minutes walk) and Kuala Lumpur KTM suburban metro station (15-20 minutes walk). But getting from these stations to the bird park on foot is difficult, as there is no direct road or signs, you'll have to wander quite a bit, use navigation on Google Maps or Organic maps. Also, from KL Sentral you can take city bus #B115 for 1 ringgit.
